A word on web hosting...

Post by ottoatm »

Hey all -

I'm looking for a new home for my LEGO page. I've just graduated, so I can't use my school's vast servers anymore  . I was using www.freewebs.com, and all was well with no ads and free service... but they have some kooky rule where you can only have 50 images on your site before having to pay them.

I'd really rather not use a tripod or geocities, and be bombarded with ads everytime I went to my story/site, so I was wondering if any of you knew of a server/service that offered to host your pages without ads, for free or a minimal price?

I know I'm reachin' here, but what the heck. 8)

I recommend http://www.50webs.com/, as long as you don't have any files larger than the 300 kb limit. Despite the "50" in the name, 60 mb of space are actually provided. And it's free.

Another solution is to host your images on Brickshelf and then use your Freewebs space for only the html files.

I actually thought about this - it's a good idea overall, that would work fine... but for one thing... I'm too lazy. :-P I like to code the sites on my laptop, FTP them to the digital world, and call it a day. The most familiar way to link images for me is to just move them all to the same spot, so if this "50webs" thing pans out for me, I'll use it until I can pay for my own URL. :-)

Thanks for the help though~
