Copyright question

Post by Jedipawn »

let me start by saying I was unsure which forum to place this in.
I am building a model for a gift to someone... I thought it would be cool to present it in a Lego lookalike box. I wanted to make it look like it was an offical set. I am unsure on the restrictions on this type of thing. I do not want to steal anything from Lego nor be "uncool" in the AFOL world. Would someone please let me know what the legal and social rules on this would be?
Thanks

As long as its not something you are selling, its ok to display the logo. Lego are not like Fox- they wont ever go overboard. Some people prefer a Lego-like logo on their unofficial logos for fun though.

This does not have with the site to do. :P

I think aslong as you're not convincing anyone that it is "authentic real" or even selling it things should be fine.

i'm assuming your friend will know it's not for real anyway?

Thanks everyone... Yes I won't be selling or even displaying any of it. And Yes as soon he sees it he will know that it is not a real Lego set.

Thanks again

Hey,

As others said, I'm sure LEGO wouldn't be upset if you were doing this for your own private use. If you were to post a picture on-line you should probably add some sort of disclaimer.

Of course, people have posted mock-ups of fake sets as jokes or April-Fools pranks etc, so there is precedence for this.

BTW, I'm going to shift this over to Publishing, as I think that would be the more appropriate forum. Administrative is for posts related to the administration of Classic-Castle and the Classic-Castle forums.
