Bumping a topic

Post by E of Alshire »

Here's a tip to help you avoid double-posting:

You have a topic
It gets many replies
It gets bumped down because it is old and no one is replying
You update it with new pictures
Edit your original post with the new pictures and a thread title that says UPDATED
Post a reply. This will 'bump' it up to the top
Delete that post. Note that this can be done only until someone replies.

Now, you've got an updated, viewable thread with out any meaningless "updated!" posts.

If the admins think this will cause too many problems, feel free to delete it. I'm not trying to get people to bump all their old MOCs up unless they are updated.

This will work and it is allowed (unless an Admin says different). However, as E said, don't do this unless you have actually updated something. Bumping your threads without good reason is frowned upon.

Yes, this makes sense. Glad to see that I can delete those annoying "It's an Update! I'm bumping my thread!" type posts.
I do hate having to post them.

Thanks for the tips... I'll have to do this soon after my camera starts working for the WIP Pic of my second section of my Castle Town...

I dunno.

I figure if nobody replies to a topic, they probably weren't that interested to begin with. Personally, I would never bump one of my MOCs or topics, regardless of the method. Even if a thread was once popular, it may well be that it has long since been exhausted. Why not just let it die?

I've posted several threads/MOCs that have gotten little or no feedback, but I accept it. Bumping, no matter what the method always strikes me as being somewhat rude.
