Black Falcon's Citadel Updated

Post by DaveOhare01 »

Howdy! Finally getting some more work done on the citidel, where every Falcon loves to spend the summer!

The rooms are not furnished yet in this section and the kids keep knocking all the flowers off -- so these are just structural pics.

Any comments or suggestions are MORE than welcome!

And....if you live in Colorado or want to meet at a national show ... bring your army and just TRY to fool with the Black Falcons! ;)

This looks wonderful. I'm glad you've replaced all those red flags with blue ones (though you might've done so at a previous update, and I've forgotten). I can't wait for the folder to become public!

And use this code for images, it'll show the thumbnail that Brickshelf generated:

Man this is huge. No argument, it's a citadel for sure. The size is awe inspiring & you have made no compromise on detail. Do you have an estimated finish time? I had just joined this forum when you posted the prievious update - so are we taliking years here? ;) lol

I never get tired of looking at this place. It's just so huge that there is always something new to see. Fantastic work, I can't wait to see the completed thing.

I would LOVE to if I had an army as large as user Jens or Jpinny [dont thinkI got his name quite right]. You are indeed a master builder. I have been watching you put this together for some time now and I must say it is marvelous. EXCELLENT JOB!

Ahoy!

Thanks a ton for the complliments! :) I think this has been a work in progress for about 18 months at this point. Quite a while, alas!

I think it will be completed in about 3 months -- a lot of the wait time is the cost of parts. At this scale, the cost is more than a little prohibitive!

After the main structure is totally done, I am thinking about two more months to furnish all the rooms. Most are already filled, but there is def work to do!

Finally, I am still planning a huge attack by a Viking armada -- so that will take a little while too!

:)

Dave, it's been far too long...

This looks really epic! Question though - Why did you use regular building for some walkways but SNOT (Bonus points for you!) for some sections? Purely so the defense weapons could be angled?

See you around hopefully,

You, my friend, are crazy! This thing is hugemongous! This MOC is probably the biggest one that I have seen detailed to closely.

This is a very good MOC. I like the blue flags better than the red ones, personally. Good luck with the rest of it!

Thanks again! Indeed -- it's a little crazy big -- but lots of fun none the less! *chuckle*

As for some of the floors using SNOT -- it was for several reasons. Half the time I was out of light gray plate. alas. The other half of the time, I wanted a flat surface so, indeed, I could angle the catapults and other detail elements -- and to pose the figs a little better.

On the interior, all of the key rooms have SNOT floors. I really like the look of inlaid 1x1 plates give the areas. So, lots of patterned tiled floors, which look cool and are easy to build. :)

When this thing is done, I'll write an article on some of the challenges on building so large and about some of the design elements I think worked really well (or not). LOL -- there is plenty in there which could be improved!

But, the key part on this creation (I think) is the modular design and how large sections of the walls come out to make all of the rooms playable. Mind you.... I don't play in there...it's just for the kids (I swear!). *chuckle* Anyway, there are no sections in the castle where you cannot get in there to set up a scene, etc. So, I'm very pleased with that aspect!

Wow Dave! This just keeps getting better! It's nice to see the whole thing (structurally) completed, but it was lots of fun watching it develop too! Stupendous work!

Hey, I've been watching this one for a while, and I have to say it's quite an ambitious project, even if your loyalties are a bit misplaced...

If I had the money, I'd build a Crusader castle to counter it, and we could do battle on an epic scale!

Also, I see you're the reason turkeys are so expensive... I count at least four. Needless to say, I am green with envy!
