The LEGO Contest Blog!

Post by Jargon »

First of all, I would like to say that I hope I am not breaking any rules. It is definitely not my intent to spam.
Please let me know if I should remove this post. :)

Anyways, I wanted to announce the creation of The LEGO Contest Blog!
For a while I've been looking for a way to track LEGO Contests going on in all corners of the internet.
Finding none, I've decided to take matters into my own hands.

Hence, the blog. The purpose of this blog is to provide a one-stop source of information on contests involving LEGO building.
I've already posted a few contests going on and the Castle Contest here is next.

So, please check it out and let me know what you think.
Also, if you see a contest going on that I haven't covered let me know, so that I can blog it.

Thanks for looking :)

This is a great idea for a blog. I'm going to have to remember to keep an eye on this.

Looks good, Aaron. As to other contests in the works, there are a couple of contests on the Saber Scorpions Lair Forums that I blogged here and also a microfig space fleet contest on Flickr that you can see here. Also, every month LDraw.org holds a model of the month/scene of the month contest.

I'm glad to see it's being received well!

For those with tips, please email me at:
aaronlbulger(a)gmail.com
Please replace the (a) with a @. (I do this so my address won't get picked up by spammers.)

By the way, thanks Bruce N H. I'll work on blogging those soon!

Linked. :)

Two pieces of advice for new bloggers:
* Pick something unique.
* Stick with it.

You've already got the first part down, just like Bruce's VignetteBricks and MicroBricks, so good luck on the second part! This has the potential to be a great resource for the LEGO community.

Dunechaser, what is your opinion on comments?
I want to make it easy enough for folks to comment, but I don't want any spam. Thoughts?

Comments provide significant value for your readers, and you should do everything you can to encourage them.

Since you're using Blogger, I'd suggest the following settings (in the Settings area, on the Comments tab):

Who Can Comment? "Anyone"
Enable comment moderation? "No"
Show word verification for comments? "Yes"

The first two options will let anyone comment -- even without a Google or Blogger account -- and the last option will cut down on automated spam. You'll still have to delete comments from spammers who actually take the time to visit your site themselves and type the code in when leaving a comment, but that's fairly few and far between.
