Very sad news - Eric Brok has passed away

That's sad. At least he died happy with the release of his set. And what he built was really nice. I don't think anyone else would have thought of using UFO pieces for a Castle roof.

Eric's site was one of the first I found when I first started looking for LEGO sites online (which still isn't all that long ago ). Needless to say I was blown away. I wasn't aware that he designed market street either. I think he would have been happy that his legacy as a LEGO fanatic will live on through this brilliant official set.

It's been a few months since I last posted, but I still lurk around now and again. I was sorry to hear about Eric's death. I've never had any close contact with him, but he is one of a few builders who's work I greatly admire, and his web-site is a great resource of thoughts and ideas about LEGO. Condolences to Eric's family and friends.

Eric will be missed. I had heard his name before but I had never connected it with the person. He had to be an amazing person to think of Market Street (And also to get Lego to produce it).

Eric's family will be in my prayers. Does anyone know if he had children or was married? It has to be really tough on them. If he had kids I bet he was a great dad. And I bet he was an even greater husband.

It is sad, but hopefully his website will live on.

The conversations in the quote sections of his websites are very funny and acurate dipictions of LEGO Minifig life. They are mostly from conversations back in '96 when the community was recently started online.

I was laughing out loud at work and trying to explain how funny it was to a co-worker "who once had a few sets." I am sure Eric enjoyed my laugher.

The Market Street he designed is pretty amazing. I wish his Highs and Lows on his website were completed. He had a great sense of humor judging by his website.

I don't know him but I will miss updates to his funny website.

And I read this just a day after seeing the new Summer '07 catalog, and pointing out the Market Street and saying "That is awesome!" And it was cool enough even my wife liked it, and said I should buy it!

I was just looking at his site. I got a wierd pang when I saw the 'recent updates' list. From reading his captions and thoughts, it just blows me away to think that this voice, this man who has affected so many, is gone. Silenced forever. And all we have left are his past deeds and thoughts.

He's linking to this thread from the featured creations page. The fifth entry down is the note on Erik's death and has a picture of his Estuary Stronghold. For those who are interested, Erik's site, LEGO on my mind is still there. Click "models", then "castles" to find your way to this great MOC. Erik was a great builder and one of the first real standouts in the community.

Hey,

I know it's been several years, but I just noticed that Eric Brok's site, LEGO on my Mind, has been taken down. I don't read Dutch, but I assume that it's just that it had been pre-paid for a couple of years, and after his passing the bill was no longer paid (it was still live last summer when I linked to some of his writings on using the Pythagorean theorem to come up with interesting LEGO angles). Does anyone know if this site was mirrored anywhere? It's just sad that this memorial to his creativity is no longer available.

For those who don't know of him, Eric's site was one of the first major AFOL personal sites showing great models and building techniques. He also designed the Market Street set from the Modular Buildings line. Here's a pic of his Estuary Stronghold that I captured to put on the front page when I noted his passing.
