Weekly Set Review: King's Carriage

This week’s set is 6044 King’s Carriage.

King’s Carriage, released in 1995, is for the Royal Knight’s King. The set includes two horses, the carriage, a king, three soldiers, a treasure chest, and accessories.

This is another set I unfortunatly do not have, but I have studied it's design on the internet and I believe I can draw some fair conclusions.

First off, this is a nice carriage. While it does not come to as high of a standerd then the sets of the 1980s, it does posess a nice selection of pieces. The colors could of been blended more efficentally, but overall, the design is a good one. As for the minifigs, we are given a good supply of them - a perfect balence for this size of a set. The only thing taking away from it is yet *another* king. All in all I'd give this set a 7.5/10 then, and a 8.5/10 now.

As Lemon said, it's not such a bad set for its era. It comes with some nice figs, and the carriage itself is pretty nicely designed. I really like the small penant flag: I wish more factions had those. Overall, a 7/10.

how to begin? well

I'll start by saying it's a must have set for all of you castle fans
those who don't have it yet, well what are you waiting for?

I saw it at stores in 1996 (after my dark age period) and wasn't oo impressed with it at first. I bought it though and my only regret is that I didn't bought more then one.

From all the big carts it's no doubt the best one. 1995 introduced us the king minifig which I know people not such a fan of but I've been waiting for one like 10 years, also the new chrome swords were new and this set included two of those. Also 3 RK knight's which are great. The cart design is brillient. When I bought it I thought it will take me like 10 min. to build it, but actually it got a lot of parts, more then 6055 or 6056 which look bigger then that one.
It included 2 white lances which are very hard to get (beside in the Armada Pirate ship). The Blue/Yellow combination works great to my taste.

Beside all of that it's one of my top10 castle sets from all times so... final score is actually 11/10:)

I like this set also.

The colors are definitely a little bright and flashy, but then he is Royalty, and the flash suited him. Two white horses, bright blue and yellow, and lion's heads everywhere.

The overall shape of the coach is pretty good, if somebody redid it in brown and black it would look pretty great too.

The two white lances are really great for people who like having white knights, and any set with three footsolders and some shields is good.

And last ... I never would of thought of making a figure bow by reversing the legs until I saw this set.

It is a great set, since you get alot of figs, two horses, white lances, lots of shields, and a nice little flag. A great army builder, and wheel set. 9/10.

I really do like this set but I feel the carriage design could have been better. It comes with neat stuff like a king, soldiers, horses, weapons and treasures. I give the set a rating of 7/10.

Anything the lame Cartoon Lions soil is instantly lowered in esteem. The carriage is good, but the Cartoon Fatheads ruin it. RK is the worst Lego castle blunder ever. KK2 looks more promising than this horrid faction. Sorry Webrain, and no offense, but I despise them. I did get the set and have since made a better version. I have eBayed away the minifigs. 2 out of 10, 8/10 with anyother group.

Seeing as I do not own this set, but am receiving it in the mail early next week (ironic?), I will hold off judgement. I like the minifigs though (minus the 'King', I have too many of those already).

At the time it was a great set and as others have said the pennant flags were great. One of the best things about the Royal Knight line was the plethora of shields included in the sets. The addition of 2 chrome swords and the lances was also great. The carriage itself was weak, but that was typical of TLC set design. It was easily converted into a much better carriage with just a few parts. These sets were also quite affordable and the 4 minifigs in a set this size promoted army building well. I bought 10 of this set at the time it came out and just ditched the crowns. Castle assessory packs were available from S@H at the time. I used the king's torso for light infantry an messangers of the king. Aside from the crown I have never had a complaint about having too many kings from any set. I always find a use for the torsos, royal guardmen etc... I would give this set a 8.5/10 back then and a 9.5 now, a royal carriage should have 4 horses, then it would be a 10/10.

OH, I really like this one, built it from instructions at Brickshelf a while ago.

Yeh, it's nice though I can't get rid of the impression that it's modelled after wagons far younger than medieval times. It kind of looks like a stage-coach from the old west... or some kind of 1600-1700 european wagon for the nobility, any way it's a wonderful set.

The set is nice, I like the design, but it's "too economic": only three soldier to protect The King???!!!!! a so simple carriage for the King???!!!! Hum...

I don't like the torches on the sides, I would prefer lanterns (a round clear brick would be more realistic).

If the shields, banners, etc didn't all have that big retarded happy cartoon lion's head on them, this would probably be a great set.

As it is, I can't stand looking at it for more than a couple seconds, so I definitely would never want to own it.

If I hadn't already started my dark age when this set came out, seeing this on a store shelf would have sent me into one.

I actually quite agree with that, it's not really a medieval cart.

None taken, you entitle to your own opinion of course. RK don't have much fans but I wouldn't go that far by saying KK2 is even better. But as I said it's your own opinion.
