We have had several production, packing, and cost issues with the plumes that meant we were not able to add them to the sets. I am trying to solve this for the future as we need to find a new solution to this, but I am afraid to say that the old plumes will not be appearing in any future retail products. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news…
My guess is that they are too costly, do we have any parts that come with extra pieces of plastic anymore?

Plumes for me were great but I remember that they weren't so "playable"...

My men were loosing their plumes all the time... And I lost a lot as well when I was a child.

For example it was very difficult to keep forestmen hats with plumes.

Not sure I'm looking forward to paying for it though! At least it would probably mean more color options...
I, for one, could certainly use some purple, green, brown, and gray plumes. Very useful part.

That's a good point.

The tool set, and the rubber-band holder. I'm sure there's more, too.

Still, you may have a point, since many times, two of the plumes on a sprue were not used in a set.

Maybe we will see a disapearence of all pieces on sprues?
Coming soon!

As a Mom, I'm surprised at how many plumes I have purchased from garage sale collections. Some of those kids took really good care of their parts. If it were me, they would have been vacuumed up a long time ago (before I cared).

Being kind of new to plumes, what other things can they be used for? Of course they look great on pirates, knights, and all, but there must be other things?

KarenJ, the Author Ben made me think differently of plumes long ago: look at this link;

That’s so obvious once you see it, I don’t think this was ever picked up in an official set, Ben will know?

Your imagination is the only limit ;) I recently used plumes as mandibles for a Robotic Spider

Quills are the main other use for the smallest plume feather. My instructions that Mario linked to are from a creation found in a LEGO Idea Book. Fortunately LEGO added the round portion on this plume so a minifig hand could hold it.

Great article. When I first heard the announcement that the old plumes would not be returning, I definitely felt a loss. The old ones were just so simple that anything they try to come up with besides would be probably over the top. Sure there are some designs which would (and will) look great I'm sure, but there's something to be said for simplicity...something I've been saying for a long time now. All we needed was the old plumes in a new variety of colors to be perfect.

Ah well, as long as the new plumes (if there ever are new plumes) don't contain some firing mechanism I'll be happy :P

It was picked up in an official set.
In fact, it is seen in the great and famous set, 6041, Armor Shop

Hope this helps! Plumes are awesome. They have so many uses... I've used it as decoration on a boat

Ah the castle plumes! I miss them in the most recent sets. As a kid I did not think too much on them, so I usually tossed them into the parts bucket or worse tossed into the corner of the room thus dissappearing. But as I've gotten older I've come to really like the lego plume. It really does add to the overall mini figure. And I get mad if any of my Forestmen are missing a plume. I'll swipe one from a knight and give it to Team Green.

During my childhood, the vacuum cleaner and younger siblings were the nemeses of small lego parts.

I dont care how the plumes or made or how we get them just as long as robin hoods hat has feather resting upon it.
