N. American Classic-Castle meet?
Like the Europeans are doing, maybe we should meet at CA LEGOland? Any ideas?

I would love to, but S. Cal. is just too far away for me at the present. Something in say Portland, OR. or Boise, ID, or even somewhere in Washington state is much more do-able for me, but probably not for others here. Unfortunately we don't have the transportation network Europe does to make it more affordable and such (I'm thinking trains specifically).

I would like to meet but only if there is significant interest as it would be a six hour drive by fast car to Southern Calif for me.

Well, for the third year in a row I plan to meet a bunch of N.A. Castlers @ BrickCon in Seattle in Early October.
Seriously, the castle display has been huge the last two years and it could go bigger as they are getting a bigger exhibition hall.

Sounds like a nice idea, but I can imagine that logistics might be problematic at best.
Maybe coordinating it with an already existing event?
As much as I would love to go back to California and hit Legoland and Disneyland again, but it was just this past spring that I was there.

BrickCon. Seattle. First weekend of October.
Castle already has a very strong presence at this event, and we can always use more.
Brickfair. WADC. Last weekend of August.
Brickworld. Chicago. June 19-22.
Those are the events in NA that are happening this year...And juding by the past discussions, it's quite divided as to people's favorites. I can only speak to BrickCon, as I've attended since 2005. I can tell you that Castle is very strong there, and seems to be strong in this area in general.

Hear, hear. Its all about BrickCon and Castle. I've lost count of how many different CCers I've met at BrickCon, but its significant. Here is group shot of nine of us in 2006, and there were more wandering about that didn't make it into the shot. I know there was a 2006 group shot with more people but I can't find the pic right now.Darkie wrote:I can only speak to BrickCon, as I've attended since 2005. I ran it by the missus and it will cost us $1,200 less to go to NWBrickCon than to head to BrickFair. That would make for some serious Lego purchases.

Time will tell if we can make it to either.

I've never been able to get over the logistics of bringing a large MOC across the border from Canada. I guess that the biggest hurdle for something like a CC meet is geography. North America is a big continent so the logistical difficulties in holding a national fest are going to be just as relevant for something CC specific.
Also, if the majority of North American CCers are on the West Coast, don't you guys just end up meeting at one of the major fests anyhow? I just can't see people from across the continent flying out to California for a CC gettogether any more than I could see that happening for a major fest. Just be happy that there is such a strong showing of CCers in your neck of the woods.

Well, hopefully I can make it to NWBC this year. I've been tossing the idea back and forth with the future missus, and she seems to be in agreement as long as we are financially able. We should be due to the fact that it is right after fire season!
There should be a classic-castle dinner or breakfast or something for NWBC, just so we can all just sit down and get to know each other better and talk all in one place.

John brought Nottingbley Castle last year and another big castle the year before across the border (and across Georgia Strait on the ferry) with no real problem. But that requires being able to drive to the event. I don't think customs has ever given him a hassle and while my MOCs have been much smaller, the only reaction I get when I say what I am doing is a smile and perhaps a chuckle.Blueandwhite wrote:I've never been able to get over the logistics of bringing a large MOC across the border from Canada.
Yeah, we may be a little spoiled but it is cool.Just be happy that there is such a strong showing of CCers in your neck of the woods.
