Plagiarism on lego.com

Post by castlebuilder100 »

Hey everyone. I was just browsing the creations on lego.com and saw a creation that I recognized as one of a CC member's. I clicked on it and it said that it was built by a ten year old. I knew that this wasn't true so I contacted the real creator to let him know. This is the third time that I have seen a kid on lego.com plagiarise is this way. In two of these cases I have contacted the real creator. In the third I could not remember who it belonged to but knew that it wasn't the kid. Just to be clear I will say that it is not he same user every time. It is even more annoying when they say things like this was easy or I built this in a couple of days when I know that they don't even have the capability to do this. Here is a link to the creations. I had to bring this up as it is obviously a problem and it is really bothering me.

EDIT:
I found another of a CC member plus one that I mention on the second page

Sadly it seems to happen not infrequently.

Though, I'm not sure that there is anything that can be done about it.

At least LEGO's not stealing people's creations. Oh, wait a second...

That's strange. Why on earth would they do that?

If you read through the LEGO Club site, you will find:

"Copied or pirated images (someone else's photo taken without permission) and images that are considered indecent or obscene are not acceptable. If it is discovered that you have submitted such an image, the image(s) will be removed and your membership in the LEGO Club may be cancelled without prior notice."

Bringing up the issue with the original builder, or to a LEGO Ambassador, or to LEGO directly (see their Customer Service page) is the best you can do. You shouldn't expect TLG to know which images are plagarized. You may also want to stay away from that site for awhile.

As for the Brick Testament images, that's old news and was brought to TLG's attention months ago.

Hmm, does anyone recognize the Viking Hall in Saber Scorp's page?

http://club.lego.com/en-us/Gallery/More ... 09d0bb3476

Unless Rocko has moved a few miles north and knocked several years off of his age, I think a 13 year old from Canada has been stealing images (also trying to grab Saber Scorpion's nickname, but that's not quite the same thing). I'm not sure if Legospeiler91 = Sir Dillon or if this is another image thief.

For some reason I wasn't able to make those simpler links, not sure why. You have to cut and paste the whole links above, not just the part that's a blue link.

Yeah, I saw that a few weeks ago. I asked Lego to remove it but they refused so I told them where to stick it.

PM me on your trouble, Rock. I'll see what I can dig up. Thanks.

And does anyone recognize DNL's castle?! :x Oh, why do people have to pull this crap? This reminds me when my Gateway Tavern was beat at my county fair by a little kids who all entered official LEGO sets! This other kid and I were the only ones who actually built our own creation (sadly though, his was pretty bad)!

It's a shame that this kind of thing happens. To make light of the situation, I guess you can take it as a complement if someone else posted your creation.

Wow, I actually am disappointed in Lego. As for someone who wants to get a job next year there, it grieves me to know that they think they have to right to take what some else built, and use it as though they build it themselves. I mean, those guys have talent, they don't need to take a fan's creation, and use it for themselves, and their own gain.

Steeling someone else's work is a bad thing, but with an apology, can be forgiven.

On the "cool creations" stolen images, I've always gotten quick action when I contacted Jake or now Steve Witt. MOCpages has a similar problem though Sean is pretty quick to delete offending accounts.

More disturbing than the Brick Testament image used on LEGO.com*, which was taken care of quickly, was the use of Brucey-wan's B'Omarr Monk design in the Jabba's Palace set without any attribution or payment. At the time I remember he was pretty mad about it. Later his sphere design made it into a Miniland fig at Legoland CA, but I believe that was after some prior discussion with him.

Bruce

*BTW, when I first saw that image Brendan linked, I also assumed it was the foreskin scene, which would be pretty funny as the illustration for a party game.

I would say MOCpages is pretty notorious for having plagiarism within its members. But as you said, whenever it happens, Sean seems to be there.

Has LEGO deleted the pages yet, because when I click on some of the links, they seem to be bad links.
