So here's the answer:
Both LEGO Representatives told me these were not official Pirate LEGO mini-figures and nothing is planned.
I'm not sure I'd consider that authoritatively precludes a pirate line... I wonder who the reps were. Lego can be pretty tightlipped and, I'd imagine, compartmentalized about things.

Unless those figures will be included in another line, I think there is still a shot at pirates. I can't see Lego making new figures just for a store display. I guess the red guy could be a British soldier for a Temple of Doom set, but I don't know about the other one.

I highly doubt LEGO would mis-inform the Ambassadors. LEGO stores often get one-off product and this was a simple display. Perhaps LEGO will one day pursue Pirates again, but if they say not now, who are we to disagree? I hope they do return, but I'll wait for offical word. Always in development are the themes of LEGO.

I am still optimistic about all this, teraflop122, could you please provide us with the link to the source of the quote. I along with some other members tried to search for it over at Eurobricks but couldn't find the post.

Mr. Phes referred to "LEGO Representatives," not "LEGO Ambassadors." If we Ambassadors had something to communicate to the LEGO fan community, we would do so to everybody, not just to one person.

Based on what I've heard from "front-line" LEGO retail employees, LEGO retail reps (which is who I assume Mr. Phes was referring to) are often the least in the loop when it comes to future product plans. Without knowing who Mr. Phes' sources are, I wouldn't place much weight one way or the other.

That is not to say that Ambassadors do or do not know any more about this particular case than the retail people do. Even if we did, we wouldn't be able to say anything. :?

For those of you looking for it, the post I quoted came from here, somewhat less than halfway down the page.

On page 8 of the same thread he wrote:
Maybe you'd all be curious to know that I've been in contact with the LEGO Community Team recently about these mini-figures...
Wow... I wasn't too into it, so I didn't really care, but he pretty much let people sweat from July 9 to 14. I guess I expected the forum Admin to be a little more...mature.

I'd love for him to be wrong. I'd love to see a new pirate line. However, I'm not going to get my hopes up.

And the fact that Lego likely plans theme releases years in advance. This could be something that is just in development. I'd not loose hope that pirate will be rereleased yet. That said I'd not hold my breath either. I just happy to have decent factions again. The shadow knights were so cool to fight the power ranger knights.

I can't believe that LEGO would produce new printed torsos if there wasn't something at a pretty advanced stage of development. It may not be a new pirates line, but it's definitely something (IMO, of course, no inside info here).

I agree.

However, even if those torsos aren't part of a new line or are part of a non-Pirate line like Indy, they're great torsos anyway.

On a related note, does anyone know about what time of year LEGO releases new lines, if there is such a time?

I'm still hopeful. I've seen displays like this at other Lego stores and they always have weird mixes, but the parts are legit, no customs or errors or anything of that sort.

At the very least I expect to see these torsos in sets, which would be nice in itself. I think we will get Pirates. Will they be as good as the old ones? Almost certainly not. Still I'd say pirates is such a strong concept that the line will have some good sets.

No, don't believe me or any unofficial source. As I am not an employee, representative, ambassador or affiliate of the LEGO Group I hold no accountability towards the accuracy of information or hopes and expectations of others. I relay information at my discretion and if others wish to become emotionally involved within this information then that is their prerogative.

If someone badly wants information then it is their responsibility to seek it for themself. So perhaps the childish are those who make accusations rather than doing their own research...

me think thou protestith too much.

The point was that an admin should not do such a thing given the extra credibality, or rather perception thereof, granted by their office. If one is not an admin, then the first part of your rant applies. <and thus would not be considered a rant IMHO.>
