Weekly Set Review: Dungeon

Post by architect »

Join the weekly Classic Castle set review discussion.
Please post your opinions on the set play ability, piece selection, design, etc. Which sets stand up to our catapult of critique and which ones crumble in shame!

This week's set is 4817 Dungeon.

Dungeon, released in 2000, is a small jail for the Knight's Kingdom. The set includes a guard with a chrome breastplate, a skeleton of a dead prisoner, a treasure chest with jewels, and various accessories.

Nifty little set. I don't own it, but I own a silver breast-plate. Nice parts pack, but not much use when build as shown. I love the torso, and another skeleton is always handy. In fact, (as far as I can see) the only part in it that isn't very useful is the tower w/window piece.

Hello!

Surprisingly, I consider this a good set. The design of the model is quite weak but the parts are nice. In particular the chrome breastplate of course. But I also like those large green bricks. They are great for landscaping. Another skeleton always finds its use.
Well, I don't need THAT many blue peeks, and those prefab turret pieces are ugly.

I could have gotten one of those on eBay. I almost did until I realized that there was supposed to be jewel in the chest instead of the lights he had. He'd also taken the breastplate. :x

Over all. I think it isn't a bad set. It's good for parts. It has the chrome breastplate, That I tried to pick up while collecting pirates, but never did. I give it 7.45/10.

Message to the people who made KK sets:

The Castle Wall Tower piece does not make a good castle!

This set is probably the worst of the line. I callenge each and everyone of you to find something like this from the real middle ages! Its so stupid and fake. I would rather buy the knight separatly, hes the only plus to this. And why can't they make gold coins for the chest? Maybe because colorful, shapely gems the size of your head are more realistic  Also why does nearly everyone imprison a skeleton. How sick can these people get! I mean bury the poor b****** already, jeez! Does TLC think that the set is more fun when the guy is guarding a dead man?

Terrible design, only saving factors are the knight and the flag

Useless. You cannot build something different from those bricks.

Just for the chrome part, I think TLC did'nt feel a need for good design *sigh

I agree that the set itself is pretty horrible - But I do really like that green super-plate and the supply of jewels. The black ladder isn't too bad either, although I prefer brown. I don't mind the figs that much either (I'll echo the 'another skeleton is always nice...') and I like the leg pattern on the guard.

Personally, I don't like that chrome breastplate much. (I do have this set)

I'd give this set a 6/10 I think.

You have to understand that this set was released as a sort of "special edition" set featuring the breastplate. As you probably know there are three other similar sets, each with their own chrome piece. The point being to collect all four to have a complete chrome knight like the knights in the the Paladins of Karkos from Sava's Ikros stories. They were not meant to stand alone as individual sets.

Well I do like this set, it looks like it would be no more then $10, is that right? If so it is nice, I like the base plate, the pants are amazing, two helmets, the only bad thing is the turret pieces. I give it a 7/10 for the price.

Yes, I do realize that. I have the 2 of those other sets, just not the dragon one. It wasn't worth it at the time to me, and still isn't to me. Personally, I think these new type 'collect all 4!' or however many sets are sort of...a ripoff?

All I cared about was the fig (a great one), the skellie (can always use more Army of Darkness recruits - with a helmet!), the jewels (great sparkly loot for Pirates - I'm not sure they had cut gems in the middle ages), and the chrome breastplate which was transfered to my Napoleonic branch for the cuirassiers. The rest was junk for the most part. Since I got these double-discounted for all of $2 each, I probably have fonder feelings for this than most.

This set is pretty    overall. The castle pieces are useless and the breastplate is NOT EURO ARMOUR.

I have a few of this set and at the time I bought them, I thought they wer ok. The green superbrick is great, there are a few decent pieces and the fig is pretty decent. I have always thought the chrome breastplate needed a cape to make it look right. It seems wrong to have no back to the armor. If only they would make Chrome Euro armor. :( Anyway I give the set a 6/10. It would have been 7/10 if it had been available for mass retail in Canada and it would have been an 8/10 if it had bricks instead of the turret piece.

I believe this set was $7 when it was new, along with the other 3 that went with it. The set designs of all four were terrible, and this one does not disappoint in that regard.

Overall, this is a decent parts pack, but the stupid castle window part and blue slope on top are pretty useless.

I really don't think it's worth what TLC was charging for it, they were counting on the chrome part to make people go crazy and buy a whole bunch. *shakes head* I still see sets like this on eBay go for well below retail price, and it's been discontinued for a couple years now.

So, basically, this is overpriced junk with a few nice parts included.
