I need help...

Post by Lord Lego 436 »

I don't know if this is the right forum to post this in, so don't flame me please!

I'm planning on building a large medieval castle, but I can never think of a good, aesthetically pleasing design. I'm looking to build a sort of boxy, 11th century design castle. If you have any good designs, than can you please post them here!

(Oh, and by the way, I already know about Krak de Chevaliers. :D )

Isn't that the basic idea of creating your own mocs? Finding a nice design on your own?

Do an image search on google or yahoo or whatever for castles or medieval castles. Look at some pictures of real castles and that may help you out.

Yeah, I guess. It mostly turns up with really fancy castles, though. :(

So build a really fancy castle then!

If you've no ideas on design or layout just build, see what happens. If it's a mess, fine, but this is Lego so you can start over. Either way it's all experience. If you're completely stumped, consider real life castles. Google them, visit them, observe the ones in films or videogames. If that's out of the question for whatever reason just see what everyone else is doing and start from there. The recent 32 stud challenge plenty of inspiration and variation, and best of all, shows how little a footprint is needed to make something great.

Actually, that's the best advice I've gotten all day. I may try to build a castle based on the one in Masyaf (Assassins Creed). I'll make the keep less, whats that word? Oh yeah, fancy! :roflol:

It seems you now have a Lego Castle project. Go forth and build. Keep us updated with regular photos, please.

Sure. How do you upload photo's to a comment, though? I've tried, but it doesn't work.

You have to use an image hosting site like Brickshelf. You can then deeplink the pics in your post.

Hey, didn't we have a Inspirational Picture thread in the Medieval Life Forum?

Rhetorical question, I know :P

Hey,

In addition to the thread Aaron linked, I'd also suggest checking out Bob Carney's LEGO Castle site. They're all historical castles and he has pictures of the real things in addition to his LEGO versions.

When you upload pics. to Brickshelf the pics. aren't public right away. So you use deeplinks, which can be reached by clicking a picture til you can't click it anymore. Then just copy and paste the address into your post.

What? So you click on the picture, you click full size, and then you copy what's in the address bar? Let me try with some random picture in my Brickshelf:

:? Nope, doesn't work. Can someone explain?

You're part of the way there. If you want to learn how to post a picture right into your posts, this thread will help.
