Kings Battle Chariot

Post by DerBum »

Sometime ago in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=11614
I stated that I would like Lego to produce a cart with a good guy or two and a couple of bad guys. I saw that this chariot thing came out this year and am intrigued.
http://shop.lego.com/ByTheme/Product.as ... n=473&d=70
Obvisouly, the cart is a bit much for a chariot and a good deal more extravagant than I would have prefered, but it does look like a fun model and I am looking for stuff that my kid and I can play with (she has finally reached the age where she can handle playing with castle lego). What are going opinions from members who have this set and kids? Does it seem to have good play value for the younger folk?

Thanks in advance.

Its a pretty poor cart. It does have a new color wheels though. And 4 figures is a lot for a $20 set. Plus you get the king with a nice torso. And the trolls spears are dark brown, but I don't think they have shields.

The cart is extremely nice part wise: you get the new king, orcs w/ shields, the big wheels, a horse and multiple pike-things :D . The playability is 7/10 in my opinion, as the chariot is too large for the orcs in the set. If you were to buy it with a number of other sets, such as Tower Raid and Troll Assault Wagon, the playability raises to 10/10. The price ($25 Cdn) is very manageable for what you get as well, as it is on par with the Battlepacks; increased play + accessories for the same cost. I highly recommend it if you plan on buying other castle sets to play with, as the chariot could easily be moc'd to a more realistic size.

For me the trolls/orcs with shields pushed the scales for me to buy it.... and the 10% off I got on it. The chariot is a bit big but it is easily fixed. I might post some pictures of my chariot when I have some time and it arrives with all my other stuff from the UK.

It is a fair to above average set I thought so I'd recommend it.

I bought this set mainly for the King. Hes a great figure nice decoration on the torso and legs.
The cart looks way to bulky for just 1 horse so changed it to being pulled by 4 horses. This actually looks alot better and makes it look more balanced.

Overall its a pretty good set. Nice cart after a few changes, 2 more clone trolls with dark spears and shields [always useful], a guard and a King [without having to buy a full castle to get a king] The cart can fit in quite a few soldiers or as a cart for the king and queen to take a Sunday drive in.
It could have done with a few more horses to pull it.. and why does the king have a sword but no shield?
and this cart has trouble fitting through the gateways of older castles.
other than that I'm pretty happy with this set.. you get a good amount of pieces and figures for the price. But you need a few other sets aswell to make this interesting.
I recommend it if your looking for something different in your armies. Would look good racing into a big battle scene with the king charging into a hoard of trolls. It looks strong enough to stand up to the troll vehicles or a giant troll

I like the chariot personally. I've seen people comment that it's too big or bulky, but it is a battle chariot after all.

I increased the horse team to four and added some more blades, but I like it. I bought four of them, as much to get a troll phalanx as for any other reason.

Ooooh, that's a good idea!

I never thought to add more horses, I just made the chariot smaller...

My wife was in the US recently and picked this up for me in the TRU buy two get one free sale (got the drawbridge and Troll fortress as part of deal.) I wont build it: I'll use it for parts and sell off some of it on BL.

The set seems to come with several interesting pieces, such as the golden chest, the extra-large wheels, and, of course, the king minifigure. Not being too familiar with the current line, I am not certain how unusual those are, but they could be a fun addition to a collection of vintage Castle elements. I would replace the crownies' minifig heads with the vintage ones, and be happy to use 'em. Not too sure about the monster type of minifigs yet.

I am probably going to buy this set next time I go to Virginia.(couple weeks to see my new nephew :D ) I think it looks okay, it is a bit bulky. I see people are talking about it not being realistic, but if it were, it would never exist! I watched this Alexander the Great special on the H Channel, and it said that after a famous battle (Gaugamela?) were Alexander dismantled the Persian chariot corps, the chariot was never used by armies in a battle again. Anyway, the double-sided printed king, crown, gold sword, archer helmet, brown spears, horse, and orc shields don't fail to excite me. :D The gold chest is not a desirable item though, as brown is much better. Historical or not, it's a good set, and a must-buy for loyal Castlers who haven't been able to get the king fig.

in my opinion it's a pretty poor set as stated earlier it is too big, what kind of idiot goes into battle with a treasure chest, and what kind of king goes into battle with only a longsword and one pikeman. plus the pikes are useless unless they point outward because anyone in risk because of them has already been trampled by the horse.
this set is only good for pieces and figs (two trolls a king with a neat shirt/torso and a pikeman with an archer helm.)
for pieces 7/10
for minifigs 10/10 but if you think about price 8/10
for playabillity 3 or less/10
for authenticity (as in set compared to middle ages) 1/10 (it has weels only authenticity I see)
for overall 5.25 or slightly less/10
