My first MOC for Classic Castle

Post by printer6 »

Hi, I'm new on here (as you could probably guess, what with the gong-farmer status and what not) and wanted to post something up. This is the first time I've taken pictures of a Lego set before (sorry it's just the one shot so far- I should have more uploaded soon, and then I'll just link to the Brickshelf folder once it goes public).
http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/print ... ct0007.jpg

Comments and critiques are welcome, but be gentle- I'm a novice here.
It's built on a 32X32 baseplate and is based closely on the 6081 official set. I wanted to try and replicate the set despite not having it (so a brick-built hill rather than a raised baseplate) and it kinda evolved into more of my own thing while still using much of the original layout.
Still waiting on some parts, so it's not entirely finished yet (mostly superficial details) and the minifigs were just randomly placed on there for the pics.

Hello and Welcome,
What I Like: The Rocks look nice, The White/Red room looks really nice, the stairs, the stone-work, and Tree.
Nit-Picks: The water's a tile above the ground (I would recommend putting some more landscaping in), The flowers in the building, (I wouldn't mind them so much, but they're just growing out of the stone, so I would recommend putting them in some sort of planter box), and the jester's placing, I can't really tell what he's doing.
All in all a good moc, I would just work on the afore-mentioned things.

More pics uploaded!
Same position, but taken from a little further away:

The backside (this is the area I'm still working on- rocks need finished up, more tiles for the water, and some green plates for grass):

A closer shot of the courtyard:

The other side of it (still some unfinished areas):

Front gate:

And this is another project, which is a lot further from being finished, but it was kinda creeping into some of the shots, so I figured I'd throw it in there:

It's an attempt at a MOC version of the guarded inn, but the whole backside is unfinshed, and theres no landscaping to speak of (just sitting on the baseplate as something to build off of). Sorry, but my current brick collection is still pretty tiny

For the jester, yeah, I'm not really sure what he's doing there either- I was looking for some figs to stick in there, and grabbed him because he's just so ridiculous :)
He'll probably get the boot when more knights arrive at the tower.

Welcome !
I love the tower of your moc.
I like the fact that it is small but well detailed.

It's a lovely castle and a very nice reinterpretation of 6081. You've done some really nice landscaping and the tower is quite striking. I like your colour selection as well. The only thing I'm not too fond of is the red roof on the tudored/timbered section on the front. It just doesn't match well with the predominantly cool colours you've used or the black spire on the rear tower. This is a fantastic first MOC for CC though.

Great work.

This is a neat castle. It's actually quite inspiring to me because I can only build castles of this scale. Wish my collection was bigger....
Anyways... I like you castle!

What a lovable castle! It's so smal but soo good! It looks like Gong Farmers are capable of great things! :D
Be the miracle!
Every-one can do it, but only the fearless can be great!

Thanks for all the kind words (and it looks like I've been elevated from the rank of gong farmer in the time since I've posted this!) I finished up the detailing, but aside from the water now completely circling the tower it's barely noticable enough to warrant taking new pictures. I'm not completely finished, as I plan to constuct a small village (of which the Inn pictured above will be a part) that will attach in front of it- probably build a bridge from the front gate, over the moat, that will link them together.

I love the detailed and different shapes that make up the towers. I like how you built up the brick hill since you didn't have the baseplate. I like the different colored blue tiles in the water. My first thought about the skinny top stairway was that it's badly in need of a railing lest you have minifig children falling off into the courtyard below. I like the piece you used as the little grate in the waterway, too bad there isn't a way to have the bottom tile 'disappear' under the flow of the water (unless you just cut it off and had the pipes dead-end into more blue tiles).

As for the little peek at your second MOC, I thought the stone tower top coming out of what looks to be a wooden structure looks a bit far-fetched physically, but I'm also not one to force my LEGO into reality-only building, either

Hope to see more from you soon...
