1 x 3 Tile!

Post by KarenJ »

My son got a little Racers kit (8195) at the Lego store the other day. I didn't think anything of it until he came running at me all excited. "Look Mom! It's a 1 x 3 tile!"

Sure 'nuff. It's a 1 x 3 tile. 63864. Yay!

In the summer 2008 issue of Brickjournal, Mandy Dee (AFFOL) said that was an element she would like to see made. I remember thinking how great that would be and how many problems it would solve, and now it's here.

No inventory is listed yet at peeron, and the part number search for 63864 doesn't get anything.

1x3 tiles can be found in many of the 2010 sets, atlantis, power miners, space police, so on.... I got a few, and they WILL come in really handy! ;o)

I can't wait until these become commonplace! LEGO should have made one of these ten years ago.

Sadly, yes. Along with the never made 1x1 old brown tiles. *double*

Sorry for asking a possibly dumb question, but... what's so wonderful about it?

Right you are. I really need to use the Bricklink more often. I got caught up here in tile envy.

That's not the only new tile size. Three new Star Wars sets have 2 x 4 tiles.

Good question. The thing is, when you are doing a lot of tiling (especially around obstacles (like tables in a restaurant), there a lot of places where you need a 1x N, but there is an extra stud where you'd need either a 1 x 2 plus a 1 x 1, or a 1 x 4 plus a 1 x 1, etc. Having a 1 x 3 tile just makes sense... because your tiles come out more symmetrical and you need fewer 1 x 1's. Hope that makes sense. For me, 1 x 1 tiles are in short supply if I've got a complicated thing going on.
