My first MOC...Where do I get bricks in bulk?

Post by Funnyham »

I have been planning my first MOC fo some time now yet one simple fact still remains. I don't have, and don't know where to get, enough bricks.
Any help?

True freedom can't lean on anything. It's transient, lonely, and arduous. You can't hope for security or reward beyond it.

Bricklink the site is in America. Bricklink the individual stores are worldwide. There a plenty of stores you can find in the UK.

Bricklink is a person-to-person site with sellers all around the world, so you'll surely be able to find someone near you with reasonable shipping. You should also check Lego.com, or the PAB wall at an official LEGO store.

I don't know if BAYIT is really still in business but the site is still up, even if it hasn't been updated in years. Baylit is pretty old skool though and IIRC was around before brickbay/bricklink.

Yard sales and thrift stores can be good. I've especially gotten a lot of great deals from thrift stores. Unfortunately, the one I got them from moved a bit farther away, and now the selection is much worse...Could be partially due to the recession. Oh well.

I've gotten a lot of stuff off of eBay as well.

Hope this helps.
God bless,

Thanks for the help. Bricklink seems pretty good, but it must take lots of time (and money) to get many of the same brick, so I guess I'll just have to check Ebay every day!

Not necessarily. You can order bulk parts from both Bricklink & Lego.com(they have a Pick-A-Brick section). For Bricklink, you need to just find someone who has the quantity of parts you need/want. If you need a lot of different parts in quantity, then use the wanted lists. If you have a wanted list filled out, Bricklink can then point you to the stores(matching your criteria) that have both the quantity and parts you selected. You might not find 1 store with everything, buy you can find stores that have a lot of what you'll need/want.

If you're in the UK like me and want to get bulk bricks you may want to widen your search are to Europe rather than just the UK as it seems there are quite a few German sellers that seem to stock bricks in bulk better than the UK sellers, and the shipping isn't too costly either. That's what I did anyway

Actually, if used carefully Bricklink can be an exceedingly cheap source of bricks. The key is to avoid getting caught up in buying high, in-demand bricks that go for a premium. If you're just starting out in the hobby, basic bricks are the way to go. Depending on the store, many of these bricks can be had at a price that is far lower than what you might pay through LEGO. Ebay is a good source, but auctions often drive the price artificially high and the lots you look at may not contain as many useful elements as you might first expect.
