I'm an AFOL and prefer newer sets to classic ones. Am I the only one?

Well I guess I was wrong.....
I always thought that AFOL's loved the good old set's.
I like the new style too don't get me wrong but I just loved that classic vibe from the old set's!

Re: Classic style set's!
Honestly, I don't think it's a matter of not liking the old sets. I just think redoing what's already been done probably is going to limit what kind of new stuff you can get. I think we've been getting some great new "classics" like the MMV and the Imperial Flagship. I think only a very small percentage of sets outside Star Wars and Indiana Jones are geared towards AFOL's, those sets being the MMV type sets or the big creator sets like the Grand Emporium or Fire Brigade. If I had to choose between getting sets like that or getting a rehash of an older set, I'd take the new ones we have been getting. I can always go back and buy classic sets on bricklink and ebay.awesomebrick wrote:Well I guess I was wrong.....

I really wouldn't mind seeing another round of Legends type sets actually, although the color change kind of throws a big wrench in the works and I'm not sure how I would feel about seeing something like 6080 King's Castle in bley. Although, on that note, the new kingdoms castle does have a bit of resemblance to 6080, maybe we are getting what you want anyway?

Re: Classic style set's!
classic sets are awesome
but I do agree that I am not only fan of the classic but also of the new sets
I mean if it wasn't for the new sets we wouldn't have the awesome new troll and dwarfs..skeletons horses and alot of other stuff
dont forget the cows and new peasants colours instead of just blue, green, and gray torso's..
so maybe a tip for lego is te keep on doing awesome new sets.. but maybe add some classic detail
example: pitchforks and forestmen's hat
that what I think

You thought correctly, don't worry. No one posted a reply to confirm that though because it's a long dead horse that you're beating there. Most everyone here would probably agree, to one extent or another with your statement, but it's been said so many times that there isn't anything to add that hasn't been added elsewhere before.awesomebrick wrote:I always thought that AFOL's loved the good old set's.

Re: Classic style set's!
I too prefer the new sets, especially the look of the newest sets with the classic styling. I think some classic sets would be great if they were revamped. I think the forest men theme will appeal to all generations, not just those of us who grew up with Robin Hood as one of our heroes.
And of course, some of the cool classic pieces would be most welcome in my collection. Some dark pearl grey fright knight helms would be sweet.

To those who are about to Lego: toss me a few bricks.

Yes, you are. I am actually just a TFOL, but I never had any doubts that the old stuff is better than the new stuff. (cough...KK2...cough)Username wrote:I'm an AFOL and prefer newer sets to classic ones. Am I the only one?

I think that many of us feel too much nostalgia for the older sets. At the same time, many of the newer sets are also overrated. I find a number of younger fans accuse older fans of being nostalgic whenever they show a preference for an older set like 6080 or 6085 when compared to say Kings Castle Seige. Just as many AFOLs refuse to accept newer things, there are many younger fans who cannot accept that any of the older sets have any redeeming features. Personally, I think a healthy mix of new and old sets is the best. Some of the new sets are terrible, however not every set from the 1990s was pure gold either.
