This set brings back many memories to me. I don't remember the exact Christmas, but I remember getting three of these sets (with the cooresponding set packs) from three different relatives. It was wonderfully designed, and I am happy to say I still have all three I have also found that the pieces are so common, I have actually made about six more of them in various colors in the past few months...which only adds to the wonder of this set. 10/10 definetly...

Very nice set. The design of it I believe to be very simple but also very well built. Pitchforks are always welcome. Love the smuggler idea to this.

A lot of early sets were brightly colored, there was that yellow castle ; ). Maybe they are trying to impersonate gypsies so they used bright colors.

I think it's great that it comes with a saddle! None of the recent castle sets with chariots and carts do. I wish I could have owned this set but it's before my time. I need to buy some forestmen! The pitchfork is soo cool also.. We need more!

My brother had this set, I did not. I have always been a fan/advocate for carts in castle. Carts add commerce and mobility to Castle figures who would have to rely on LPCs (leather personnel carriers) otherwise. I enjoyed the Forest Men sub theme a great deal, but the peasant shirt figure was over used (I still have a handful from the Castle Minifigures packs http://www.classic-castle.com/sets/archives/6103.html) Still, today I would gladly buy up another handful if they were rereleased (this is one line of only a couple sub themes I would not mind seeing in stores again).

The cart is nice because it is more of a heavy wagon which could be used for larger cargos. I dont mind the colors since the blend in well with other Castle sets from the same time period http://www.classic-castle.com/sets/archives/6054.html: notice the blue roof... in a tree, not very stealthy either! The Knights Challenge http://www.classic-castle.com/sets/archives/6060.html was among my favorite sets from that time period and the colors were very bold indeed. My opinion, as a child, was that carts were always good for playability. This seems to be borne out by my oldest daughter who really enjoys the carts I build when we play Castle together. Finally, I always considered the forest men to be civilians (just a potentially criminal element), so this makes a nice useful civiliain set.

Seeing as though this thread was revived relatively recently (considering it's age) and I only acquired this set on the weekend, I thought I'd chime in.

I only found out about this set in the last year. Whilst there's nothing brilliant about it, I think it's a neat little set that's kinda cute and I'm glad that I have managed to source one. It only came with two of the Forestmen however I was fortunate to have a spare blue Forestman to correct this (to make it match 1680). For me it's one to feature as it is in a scene that's faithful to the original Lego set scale and style. I don't mind the bold blue colour either.

The set was created before the Lion Knights were branded "Crusaders" by LEGO marketing in the USA in 1992.
