Black Falcon Fortress 2.0

Post by Napoleon »

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=449264

Here is a new MOC of mine: a remake of the classic Black Falcon Fortress. I spent one long night studying the set pics and making my own version. I even posed the figs in the same places and poses.

C&C welcome! :D

This was immediately recognizable; you did a good job bringing the Black Falcons Fortress back into "our day" of Lego. It has that simple-yet-pleasing feel of the classic set, and the interior detail we've come to expect more from recent sets.

Perhaps the only thing I would change is the empty space at the outside front corners. Maybe some statues, or something, in place of the tiles?

I took particular notice of the gardening/farming going on in the courtyard. Good addition!

Thanks a lot! :) I was hoping folks would recognize it.

Yeah, I thought about adding statues...I have those dark grey IJ ones, but they looked too small, plus, this is demolished now. I plan on making another castle MOC really soon, maybe I'll make some gargoyles then. :D

C&C, bullet point style:
-That's not how half timbered construction works.
-That parrot is pretty lost.
-The square protrusions between tower levels are funky.
-The rocks on the towers don't seem like the greatest defensive idea.
-I do not understand your roofing method at all. Green plates with black and brown ribs?
...and that's how Equestria was made!

I think it looks ok. Given the color scheme on the living quarters, I would have this place populated by "Dragon" knights instead of the Lion knights.

for no discernible reason the roofs in the back look (for lack of better term) off. otherwise I like the crunch of old and new in this MOC. It has a very clean solid look like the old castles and it has little bits like the rocks that are reminicent of King's castle siege.

Well, thanks everybody! :D I agree: this isn't perfect. I hope to get better and get "mad building skillz" like the master builders. At least, that's my goal. I could've done better on the roof by using slopes, but, alas, I do not have enough of them in non-bright colors, so, I used plates. I can't remember why I chose green...I should've used brown. As for the "parrot:" it was supposed to look like those various birds they used to carry messges. Oh, well, thanks for the tips and compliments, guys! :)

EDIT: This may sound stupid, but what is half-timbered construction?

I assume that's what you're trying to emulate with the yellow there. That's what the printed wall panels in a lot of classic castle sets represented.

Ah, thanks! I thought it might be tudor, but I wasn't sure. Yeah, I could have made it pretty realistic, but I was restricting myself to building it like a set, where they don't go overboard with details that raise the price.

That fortress is well done. I like the courtyard. But it would be cooler if you added Black Falcons 8) . I wish I could make something like this. I have the legos but not the sorting or the time

Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks! Yeah, sorting can take forever and isn't always fun. Stuff like technic pieces are always the hardest.
