I'd say a good avatar is a fig that you like and that is not normal.
For example you combine some pieces till you've got a fig you like that is special (no random crownie fig...).
My avatar is... it's a troll that hides in a forest.
It doesn't need to be castle like but... we're here on CC, so many members will have sth. castle like.
Hmm...inspiration...maybe you try to build a fig from a book or you just experimente till you've got a fig and you can say:
Hey, thats my Sig-Fig!

I hope that I could help you
You can see my MoCs on my Flickr Account and you can see them also on my Blog where you also can read the stories behind the MoCs...but in german.

Hey,

No, it doesn't have to be castle-themed. I sometimes use a modern themed guy:
Image instead of this guy Image
(it's really the same guy in different clothes).
As to choosing one, just pick some fig you really like. Some people mix and match pieces to try and get a fig that looks like them, some use a character from their LEGO world, some just use a fig from their favorite theme. Some people don't go with a fig at all, but instead use an animal or something (e.g. Troy's dragon or Pat's monkey).
Sometimes people change up their sig fig for fun, like for instance I've got variants for different holidays, like these for Halloween and Christmas:

Or you don't have to have a fig at all for an avatar. Some people use things like shields or whatever.

Basically there's no rules - go with something you like and have fun.

Yup, build a fig that you think represents you, and as long as it's not objectionable content, you're good to go.
Trevor

Trust me, I think I'm funnier than you do.
Why do I have to add the word "minifig" to my spell checker every time I use it?!

This might be as simple as what format you're saving the image--if you're saving it as .bmp, for example, it is going to have considerably more information to save than if you save it as .jpg. It might be as simple as opening the image (even in Paint) and resaving it as different extension.

Hey, try downloading THIS ONE. I'll remove it from my gallery in a few days.

I'm wondering about this too. I'm really new and have yet to post an avatar. But I built my Sig-fig and am trying to get a good photo. Any suggestions for Photography? Oh by the way does anyone realize that sig-figs are also a type of number used in Chemistry? JUst wanted to point that out.
