Which Castle (2007) set is the best?

Post by krzyzak »

The title says it all. Which is the best and why? For me, I have lots of likings, but the best is the king's castle. It is the crownie's base of operations. Plus, the front defense's are awesome.

Remember, let's exclude the the Market Village; you guys already voted that the best.

Not much to go for in 2007, if that is the year I'd have to pick from.
But I actually loved the Skeleton Ship because of the black hull parts, sail, useful parts and figs included in the set.
The King's Castle is ok, but nothing more than just that - A Castle.

Well, I meant the entire crownie collection. Not just 2007. I should have been more specific.

If you're talking the entire fantasy line, Dwarfs Mine is my favorite. It's the only one from the line that is still assembled. If you're talking crownies only, then I would pick The Knight. It's one of the best impulse sets in a long time.

7091 Knights Catapult Defense. It's agood army builder ( two crownies, two skeleton ), the barricade and the catapult are well designed and I really think I would have enjoy this set as a kid.

For me this line was predominantly about bricks and minifigs. I actually found most of the sets to be rather uninspired or downright mediocre. Still, it was easy to overlook when you had such spectacular minifigs. For me, the drawbridge defense was the best of the lot if only for the fact it included a jester, a fantastic Knight in pearl gold and the queen; a figure that only came in one set.

The Crownies Castle was HUGE, with a generous portion of armies and pieces...one of the sets that slipped through my fingers after being in production for YEARS! (I should have waited on the Medieval Market, which is STILL in production and I could have had it. :( )

That said, the MM is among the best sets ever, and did come out in the Crownies era. However, I am also partial to the Dwarf's Mine. It is often under-recognized as an innovative set that also represents the greatest set to build your Dwarf faction (outside of the 5-pack, which I also walked past twice w/o buying. :( ) Yeah, I have some regret issues after missing the first wave and a half of the Crownies.

If we're talking about the traditional sense of a set, I would vote for 7094 King's Castle Siege. However, 5615 The Knight was a nice little item....

Of the ones I have I like Tower Raid a lot (the siege tower goes well with King's Castle Siege). I also like Troll's Mountain Fortress - it's not a fantastic build and there are no decent play features to speak of, but I like the look and the modular nature of it, plus the minfigs are great.

I think that the dwarves mine was the most interesting set of the fantasy line. Dwarves mine is the only set that I still have on display. It has great play features and interesting characters. The dwarves are so distinctive from all of the other castle people. It might be their height, beards and helmets but they just seem to stand out from the crowd. They are the highlight of the entire line... maybe apart from the 3 awesome dragons.......

I hope that they bring back the dwarfs at some time. I really like the Dark Dwarf from the collectible minifig line.
