Guarded Bridge

Postby soccerkid6 » Thu May 24, 2012 1:31 pm

I have wanted to try out my wall technique (mitgardian border watch) again, and I haven't made a stone bridge before.
So I decided on a fortified bridge; here it is:

The roof is very good, and I also like the water. The SNOT in the bridge is excellent.

Very good soccerkid. The chasm looks great and the water also. The tower and the bridge has some intressting details, as the snot Medieval Guy also pointed out. Awesome work :D

Nice job, I really like the use of the turntable bases on the doors. The shutters on the windows are cool too.
You would rather be building right now.

@Eklund: I like those a lot myself, the shutters were actually somewhat accidental. I made the windows then realized shutters fit perfectly 8)

@Knight Man: Thanks :D

I keep getting "Server Not Found" for your link and for your website. :(

And my attempt at submitting this reply with quoted text brings up this warning in red:
"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."

EDIT: nevermind, now it all comes up.

Now I can say - very nice and compact. I like the SNOT bridge parts, and the pattern on the doors (when closed). I'm also very impressed with the base presentation.

You are definitely getting better all the time! Your rock work is my favorite part of this MOC, but the doors are nice too. There are a few things I think you could tweak a little bit, but overall it's a really nice build. :)

Keep up the good work!

Thanks AK :) Would you mind letting me know what you think could be tweaked?

A couple of things would be to put some 1x1 black plates above and below the hinges of your shutters. This would help "hide" the hinge a little bit, I think. Same for the doors. I would put a 1x2 plate or tile in between the hinges and 1x1's in the corners. Those are just kind of personal preference things though.

Also, the way you made the tower on the pillar of rock in the middle of the chasm is neat, but maybe a more realistic way to do it would be to put the tower on one side with an open bridge spanning the whole gap. If you did that, you wouldn't need the rock pillar, and the canyon would look much more impressive, being wider and unobstructed, I think.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents worth. I hope you don't take these ideas as criticism. Your building skill is definitely improving with every MOC. I'm also enjoying the development of your webpage. Pretty neat stuff :)

Thanks for your opinion AK, and please don't ever hesitate to tell me if you think something could be improved.
I will have to experiment with what you recommended for the hinges.
I kind of agree with you on the tower being placed on the outside, instead of in the river, I think it would make the river look better as you have pointed out. But it would have been trickier doing the angled bridge, as I attached it to the pillar of rock. Something to keep in mind when I design my next MOC though, I think it will be LCC related (quite possibly even the 1st Mason Guild challenge) 8)

Thanks for commenting on my website too :D Yesterday and today it was done for a little, I will have to see if something is up with the server or what :?

Those doors are really nice! They seem very fortified with iron in the door or something it's cool :)
