Lego VIP Top-5 Boxed Minifigures

Post by AK_Brickster »

The appearance of this "Exclusive to VIP's" set was mentioned briefly in another thread, but I thought we could start a new one here to discuss it.

Personally, I'm only interested in the elf and maybe a few fishermen for the beards. I'm hoping that fellow "exclusive" builders who are into space Legos will buy these up to build cyborg armies (possibly similarly with the mummies) and hopefully the price of elves on BL will come down a tad as well.

What do you guys think?

(Let's discuss this particular set as opposed to "I wish they would do this with XXX figs.")

This is great! I would love to have the elf.
You've got to ask yourself one question,"Do I feel lucky?" Well do ya, punk?

This set has been discussed alot and it had gone down a bit. Now when Lego published that this can be ordered it seems the discussion is up again. personally me too are only intrested in the Elf and one mumie, the others could be parted in to custom figs. But the price for this to high, because hey there isn´t anything special about this set of 5 reruns...

Well, as I mentioned in the first post, 3 out of 5 of these figs could be considered "army builders" (elf, cyborg, and mummy). Unfortunately, unless you like to army-build in multiple themes (guessing not many of us can afford to do so), you are stuck with 4 figures that you don't have much use for.

I wonder if the best way to handle these would be to buy 5 of them (currently that's the max per person - or is it per order?) and then sell the others as lots of 5 each on eBay to try to recoup the costs. I'd think a lot of 5 cyborgs/mummies/elves would sell better than 1 of each.

Also, do we know which parts of these are different from the CMF versions? I heard that there were slight variations due to original molds not being available.

They look the same, or at least very similar to the originals to me. It's possible that this is an alternative to putting the CMF parts into a minifig bin at a Lego store.

the only differences I can spot is that the mummy has a golden scorpion instead of a dark read one and the fishers catch is silver instead of sand green.

The only one I could see as being useful, other than for collecting, is the Elf and I got one from TRU when they were in the Minifigure collection. Seems like this is more of a marketing attempt to drum up collector interest from AFOLs, who would keep the set in the box for future value, rather than a sort of useable minifigure collection.

Blah - imagine a Warriors set 1 with the elf, roman, highlander, spartan, and gladiator. Then for a Set 2 you have a the musketeer, Queen's Guard, Samurai, dwarf, viking, Robin Hood, Indian etc. to choose from.

I am moving this thread to General LEGO as this set is more of a minifig collection than a castle set.

Thanks,

I wasn't able to get much series 3 in stores, so I'm happy for a chance to get more elves and cyborgs. Figure the rest can be trade fodder, but I doubt there will be much demand for the monkey man.
