I really like the new sword molds. That said, I'll always love my classic rounded swords too. I find that the claymore looks at home with Castle Crownies and Kingdoms minifigs, but out of place with any of the older stuff.

I personally like them. The Gladiator's sword looks amazingly awesome with Dragon Masters and the longer 'claymore' swords look really good with most factions I have. Personally, I think that the new and old molds go well together, the old gives the minifigs a more homely look and feel, while the new 'claymores' give a heroic sort of impression and the gladius make soldiers look more militant.

Just my two cents. :D

This.

Love the gladius with Dragon Masters.

And, while I am not much of a fan of the "claymore," I will agree it does seem to somewhat suit the Crown Knights. I also like the variety of molds for the characters that you want to stand out from the regular line of soldiers.

I actually really like the Heroica / Blacksmith weapons. Not all of them, but the dagger, sword, and axe all have their place, IMO. The axe in particular is small enough to dual-wield for berserker types.

The bow & arrow, mace and scythe thingie aren't of nearly as much use though.

Also excited about the "sting" swords. Hoping that they start popping up in other sets or on BL for a reasonable price.

I like the small and large pointy swords with the Crownies, Kingdoms knights, and Fright Knights and I think they would look good with KK 1&2 but anything older than FK the rounded ones look best.

I believe it's a happy medium between the classic sword and the K.K. swords and they look really good.
Who would've thought little plastic bricks could be so much fun?

The 'claymore' is actually a pretty nice early-mid period norman sword. And the spatha is a nice spatha. I like them both.

I do have a fondness for the classic LEGO shortsword but in terms of historical accuracy it certainly falls short, and that's been my interest lately. This new arming sword is fondly welcomed.

That said, the shortsword makes an okay substitute for a migration or viking sword, with its rounded tip. The pommel and crossguard do leave something to be desired on that field though.

I personally always thought that the classic LEGO sword was a little short for my taste. I like the new claymore style sword a lot more than the classic sword. And as for the gladius, I like more than the classic sword, but I still like the claymore type sword the most. I think they're both really detailed.

Although I love the look of the new long pointy sword, it doesn't fit on the saddle without dragging the ground. Pictures on the instructions for set 9471 (Uruk-hai Army) of Eomer on horseback show his sword stowed blade up on his saddle. Ouch. I ended up clipping the spear to his saddle so he could use his sword and keep all his fingers.

Ah yes, good points all. And while we're talking about new weapons, what do you guys think of the 'soft tipped' spear?

It seems this weapon has migrated from CMF to mass production, with the LOTR sets.

Good?
Bad?
Is the classic spear gone?

I actually really like the new spear. It's more accurately colored than the original spear (which comes in such colors as trans green, pearl silver, etc) and a tad bit taller too.

I like all the new weapons, in some places the old ones work better but having more to choose from is great 8)

I prefer the leaf bladed spear without the under-blade ring, but that isn't to say the new spear is bad.

I think the new spears are great. I really like that they differentiated the color between the tip and handle, rather than just one color for the whole spear.

True, I also think the new spear is great. More realistic but not too much that it isn´t Lego any more :D
