Well BrickCon is over and it was a wild ride!
I had a great time and felt it was one of the better years in recent history. I met new people, got to get reacquainted with old friends and got to know old friends better. I love you guys!
"Castle" was a major force at the Con this year. There were four different sections that were all technically "Castle". We had our CC layout, a very packed stand-alone MOC section, a massive Hogwart's display by Alice Finch, and a truly incredible mythological layout by Vancouver Train Club. Besides an incredible array of MOCs, we also claimed a majority of the top-end awards.
Alice Finch took home "People's Choice" (selected by the public) and "Best in Show" (selected by Con Attendees) for her Hogwart's.
Jordan Perry (AK_Brickster) and David Frank (Fraslund) took the two honorable mentions for "People's Choice".
David Frank also won "Best Castle Building" and Craig Ferguson won "Best Castle Scene" for his Helm's Deep.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to Castle this year. I was asked by several people how we have such talented builders and I just said that Castle naturally rocks.
I am truly lucky to be your coordinator...you all make my job easy!
I would just like to point a few highlights for me. I wish I had trophies for the following people, you all are great and we wouldn't have had nearly as good a showing as we did.
Frank Filz - Frank, you really stepped up and filled in an incredibly large section. I was so busy rushing about, I don't know if I told you how good it looked, but it was quite impressive. You were also very flexible about changes that had to take place and I greatly appreciated that. Frank also wins the crowd interaction award for being so willing to talk to the public when many of us bailed out. Well done, sir, thank you!
Fraslund - For bringing a smile to my face and being incredibly humble man. Anytime my enthusiasm was beginning to wane throughout the weekend, talking to David picked me up. You can't help but smile when he is around and his passion is contagious. He also got a boatload of compliments for his section and it didn't go to his head at all. He seemed genuinely surprised that people liked it so much. You are a pleasure to work with!
BiggerJim - For being an all-around nice guy and for being willing to step with a hand whenever and wherever needed. I am proud to know you and you are rock, my friend.
EK_Knight - You really stepped out of your comfort-zone on many occasions and really impressed me. Good job!
Plums_deify - You are simply awesome and you know that. But I need to say thank you for the ultimate highlight of my Con experience. Being allowed to randomly hand out free lego sets during the public hours was amazing and made me feel really good. It was quite the pick-me-up!
There were many more great experieces and I appreciate all of you that I got to hangout and interact with. Thank you for making it a great time.
Build On,
Josh
