new castle factions

Post by athronieth »

Dear Lego, please introduce some new factions when you come out with your next castle line. Especially, please no more lion heraldry! How about Griffins or Bears or Fleur-de-lis instead? I know KKII had Santis with his bear shield, but that was not a whole faction, just an individual knight. We got the Boar knight with a recent collectible series...how about a whole boar faction be the bad guys the next castle run? Anyone else have a hoped for new faction?

As a long time castle fan, I totally agree. We've had lion factions up to our eyeballs!
ENOUGH! : )

There are so many nifty crests one could use.

I'd be interested in seeing factions come out with cool color combos and the heraldry being featured on something other than the torso or shield. Print on the flags or have something brick-built or pre-molded to represent the heraldry. Take the last Kingdoms line for example. The "Dragon Knights" would have been fine with with just using the pre-molded "Norbert" dragon like they did and then maybe a dragon-esque type of motif in the architecture without having the crest on the actual torso or shields. Same with the "Lion Knights". That way, people could have more easily inter changed their factions. People like their heraldry though, so I suppose if they are going to do it, just make sure the crest makes sense.

I'd like to see some non-animal heraldry (or at least one without a prominent animal smack-dab in the center).

Maybe something like this:

Too right, some proper heraldry would be very welcome.

A thought that popped into my head, a unicorn faction? That could be fun. Main colors: purple, pink...

In all seriousness though, I'd love to see a whole bunch of new factions. Some with patterned heraldry, some with animals, some with... objects (ala Crownies) maybe. Just my opinion.

You mean like this http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=3846pb20 ? :P But a proper unicorn faction would be great.

I've thought that the castle 2013 shield looks like an owl, but I'm guessing that's unlikely. I think 'traditional' heraldry is kind of... boring, for kids. But agreed that there must be other creatures that could be used rather than lions and dragons...

I would definitely like to see more castle factions! :)

The more variation the better!

I'm always excited to see new factions / heraldry from the new castle sets. The collectible figs have helped give us a little more diversity in the shields, but lacking due to no matching flags.

Here's hoping the new shields and flag designs are more than just a rehash of old ones. :)

You joke, but I was thinking that a purple and gold faction would not only look regal but attract more little girls to Castle. A unicorn as the main emblem might be a bit too obvious, but something like a bird or a fleur-de-lis could work.

I agree with y'all, a couple new factions would be very nice. No more Lions!

Oh, I am definitely not dissing the purple-gold combo. Believe me, I had a similar dream a while back of a bird based purple-gold faction. Great minds think alike?

Still, I doubt a purple-pink combo would work as well. But, you never know!

There was a discussion going on at EB about how caste sets don't interest girls very much and that making some Heroines as part of the sets(and box art) would be a good idea, I agree with that. But going with unicorn shields and Friends colors would be taking it WAY to far. :P

I think all of those ideas are great! I'd like some variation. But personally, I kinda wish they would bring some forest/fantasy related themes back. The forestmen/dark forest renegades were a hit, maybe update them a bit and add some Elves or something and who knows? Sorry for going a bit off topic... :tasty:

Lions and dragons are getting over used... Especially lions. There are INFINITE different things they could do for heraldry besides a lion head and a dragon!!!

Two swords crossed across the centre of the shield. A bear, boar, bird.... A fire in the middle of a circle. A horse head. An arm holding a sword up. Fluer de lis. A griffin. A snake. A viking symbol. An arrow pointing downwards. A blue oak tree on a field of white. EVEN a unicorn. Just anything besides lions!!! Some of these ideas have already been stated, but still... Lions. :?
