Re: Castle and Tolkien sets for 2013
You're right to an extent, but there are sometimes sets that are more complex and could be seen as 'also produced for us' sets though. Medieval Market Village and more recently the Joust and Mill Village Raid immediately come to mind. That there's a limited amount of them (I think at least 2 were exclusives) would be another nod in that direction.

Here is a cropped photo of the original one I linked, you can see it a bit better...
Looks that at least a few of the sets have a goody portion of brown, so that's good.

Hoping for new barding designs that allow posing with the new horse. Maybe something similar to the king's in http://www.brickset.com/browse/themes/? ... %20Knights. I seem to remember LEGO saying these were coming, and a new castle line seems the perfect spot for them.

Re: Castle and Tolkien sets for 2013
I think that would be a great idea too. Any new castle accessories and pieces would be a welcome sight to (I'm guessing) some if not most of us. It might look a bit odd because of the way the new horse was made with the rearing up ability, so I'm kinda thinking the back section of the barding would have to be changed significantly to be compatible on the horse. Just my thoughts...Owen wrote:Hoping for new barding designs that allow posing with the new horse. Maybe something similar to the king's in http://www.brickset.com/browse/themes/? ... %20Knights. Maybe they could make the back part of the barding into a hinged flap that would allow the legs to push out through the back when rearing. It will be interesting to see what, if anything, they come up with.
I can't wait to see official pictures of these sets!

Re: Castle and Tolkien sets for 2013
I'm generally happy to see new sets with old factions. At this point, in Castle's history, there are so many factions I'm actually having a hard time accommodating all of them. See, I'm interested in slowly building a complete castle world. So keep those lions coming. I love new factions that are easy to incorporate with other factions. I might actually incorporate a bunch of those Chima figures since most of them could be attached to existing factions.

Re: Castle and Tolkien sets for 2013
That's a good point Frank, I hadn't thought of that. And your idea of making a castle world sounds amazing. I would like to do a small version of that myself too. But I think a little variation in the factions now and again would be a nice breath of fresh air, even if the factions we have will be spread a bit thin. And then adding Chima figs in the mix is pretty cool, I myself would probably make their vehicles more medieval/fantasy-like than they are now. If you happen to get any factions that are hindering your Lion collecting I'd be happy to help.ffilz wrote:I'm generally happy to see new sets with old factions. I agree with AK, the blue-gray lions sound like they would be a great addition to garheim! If we could disguise the lion logo and just have more blue themed figs! I'm looking forward to the pictures because I'm going to be receiving these whether I want them or not!

Re: Castle and Tolkien sets for 2013
Why would you need to disguise the Lion logo for Garheim, not because Loreos uses one! Remember the King has a Lion as his faction and I have used the Duplo "growling lion" logo as a Garheim: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mencot/824 ... 2171684071. Remember all 3 "lawbiding" factions come from the same family/house so the use of Lion as heraldry is not a privilege to Loreos.Tastymuffins wrote:I agree with AK, the blue-gray lions sound like they would be a great addition to garheim! As to the new Castle theme, I won´t say nothing until I see the official images. But some of the next LOTR sets sound and look pretty intresting.
And I don´t know if the Orthanc set was announced for this year but I think so and that it will be the exclusive, does anyone have any more info on this?

Yeah the Lion logo doesn't bother me for Garheim. I already am using this one for some of my troops:

Re: Castle and Tolkien sets for 2013
The first pictures have come from the German Toy Fair (and all legit).
The castle looks quite bad parts-wise (mainly large pieces), but I guess this is to appeal to a younger age-range than the more detailed/difficult LOTR builds? I'm guessing the new barding is open at the back to allow the horse to rear up.

But the figures look nicer, and should throw out some good parts and weapon/armour additions to existing crown/lion factions (note the use of the Lion armour AND the crown torso). Also looking forward to grabbing some of the baddie dragon guys, but will probably be sticking to smaller sets (especially if the smallest has 4 figures).

Not a big fan myself, looks incredibly juniorised with all the big wall panels. Think i'll stick with the LOTR/Hobbit sets for my castle interests!

I guess I'm kinda in the middle. I like the new look of the minifigs and accessories, but as for actual castle building, it looks pretty weak. And the use of the lion and the crown reminds me of king Matthias from KKII, he had a crown and a lion on his torso which is pretty cool. Then with the dragon soldiers, looks like they'd be great for outlaws.
