No More Octagonal Plates

Post by Athos »

Dear Lego,

Please cut back on the use of octagonal plates (http://brickset.com/parts/?part=4583688). I have a ton of these and not much (if any) use for them. This is especially a problem, as a 4x4 plate doesn't fit correctly in the middle gap of four of them.

Regular square (or rectangular) plates would be much better.

I agree!

Other than using them for filler for making raised bases, I never use them. They just take up room in my odd shaped plates container. But I am sure there is someone out there who loves them.

Looking at sales figures on Bricklink, this part has some fans, but I agree that it doesn't seem like a very good part overall.

I like it and I don't. Green ones I hate because it makes it harder to landscape as for tan well when I build castles there good for towers. Wouldn't mind a few in white or gray.
I guess it depends on the color but I do agree they need to cut down on them.

When I first looked at this, I thought, 'oh, towers!' as well. Maybe not just for the top of a tower, but to use for a few floors in the tower as well.

I have so many of these, and all I use them for is to add a little bit of height variation in a landscape. I totally agree with you!

I can't think of a use of them really, beyond structural integrity and possibly a large tower floor. They're pretty much useless IMO otherwise.

The problem is that you are restricted in the size of tower you build if you use this place. More generalized parts are be better.

I actually (strangely) do not own any of these. Or at least, I don't knowing own them.

But I'll echo the general resentment against weirdly shaped plates. I'm sure there is a great way to use them, but I can't seem to find one, since I do a lot of landscaping. I have seen such weird plates be used very well in starfighters/space MOCs, though.
