Do your black capes shred?
I've noticed this happening with my own black capes, but then I've also seen the same thing in pictures others have posted. Does anyone know why this is, and has anyone not had it happen to them?

Re: Do your black capes shred?
My capes haven't shredded except for my old ones (8-10yrs old). They shredded because they were mixed with a bunch of pieces and weren't taken care of well.

Im not sure, I keep all my capes together and I always assumed the ones that started to shred were old, but when I see them shredding I try and snip the threads before they pull more.

Re: Do your black capes shred?
All of my old capes from the early Star Wars and Harry Potter sets are frayed. I have taken care of my newer ones much better, but I do think that the newer ones are made of slightly different material. They just feel a bit different. Might just be because they are not old and used, though.

My custom black capes are anti-fraying.
I don't use "official" (black) LEGO capes anymore.

Re: Do your black capes shred?
Well, my old black capes are starting to shred, which for me is good and bad. Good because it can be realistic in some places, bad because it is annoying. So yes, mine do shred.

Re: Do your black capes shred?
"Shredded" seems like an odd word to describe my older capes' condition. I think "fray" is the word you're looking for.
And yes, I have a few older capes that are frayed, but I think it is due to age, not necessarily some inferior fabric they used to use or something like that

Yes I think Fray is the term you are looking for as well.
I have some older capes as well that are doing this too. Is it an Inferior Fabric? No i don't think so just a different type or blend. As with most things the older an object the more different the composition that the material was made. Do I think Lego group changed Fabric? Most assuredly due to supply changes an manufacturing advancements! But will these capes that are new be any better? Ask me in 20 years then Ill tell you.

Re: Do your black capes shred?
I don't think it's a purely black issue. As others have mentioned, older capes do tend to fray, from wear & tear, old age, improper storage (or, all of the above!)
The oldest cape I have is frayed, it's not black, though. It's green!

Re: Do your black capes shred?
Yeah, pretty much all of my older capes are frayed, mostly from the Star Wars and Harry Potter lines. In fact, I used to fray them on purpose, I thought it looked kinda cool. I probably wouldn't do it now, but I guess it could fit some aesthetics.

Re: Do your black capes shred?
I have a thought about how to help them not shred. It wouldn't cost a lot. Just have to head to walmart and buy one of those tiny nail polishes in clear. They usually are like $0.99. Then carefully apply a weeeeeeee little bit to the edge. If you don't feel comfy doing that...well ask someone who does their nails.
