Dear Lego - Shorter Minifig arms for shorter minifigs

Post by Sir Osis of Liver »

Dear Lego,

I've noticed that the short legs are becoming more common as a way to represent children, elves, hobbits and other short statured characters. Unfortunately the current minifigure arms that are on a standard torso piece are disproportionatly long and look out of place on these figures. There needs to be an arm mold that is approximately 2/3 the length of the current arms to make things look more correct and balanced. Hopefully such a piece is already in the planning stage and will be appearing in sets soon. :)

This is actually a rather good idea. You're right when you say that the normal arms look a bit too long with the short legs.

Also, please please please bendable short legs. And what happened to those longs legs you introduced a few years ago for woody and Jessie and were never seen again?

I'd like to expand this request a bit:

Please make more types of arms. In addition to short arms for short figures, it would be nice to see arms in poses other than flat against the side of the body.

I don't actually agree with arms in other poses, but I can see why you might! I think that the current pose is synonymous with LEGO, and introducing more poses would change that. Just my piece. ;)

Good idea! I don't want short short minifig arms, just ones that are slightly smaller. :) And I agree with Erathor, I don't think I would like different poses for the minifigs, that would be weird. To get better poses, just use flexible figs! :D My 2 cents.

I guess it's the ongoing question of 'how far do you go before it's no-longer a mini-fig?' (Truth is LEGO could make whatever they want and call it a minifig, fans might complain but ultimately it's TLG's liberty).

Shorter arms would be nice. It's fine when they're posed, but when the arms are by the sides, it does look a bit ape-like.

I saw someones designs for multi-jointed minifigs a while back (to allow sideways movements) but I think it just get's too much. I like working within the limitations of LEGO, be that having to make-do with certain pieces or the limited abilities of a minifig.

Technically, they do have a different arm pose with the bat figure from CMF and Monster Fighters. I suppose proper camera positioning (or an X-acto knife) could achieve the same effect for somebody who really wants it.

I agree that adding more joints would be too much. I'm not really sold on my "different arm poses" comment from above either. It's just something I often have trouble with.

Yeah, jointed arms would make it a little too much like M**a B**ks, and we would not want that :twitch: IMO, having a Lego figure the way it is makes it iconic to the Lego company.

I agree. I saw some jointed arm prototype pieces that I think were made by the same guy who made Little Armory pieces (were those the ones you were thinking of, andhe?) and while they were certainly a neat concept, they're pushing the boundaries I have for minifigures.

I don't really have a problem with the arm length on minifigures with short legs, though. I feel if the arms were any shorter/smaller, they would look very strange compared to the rest of the minifigure. But that's just my 2 cents, of course.

I definitely agree. Though having them too short may look a bit odd.
