LoR - Departing Glory

Post by Sir Erathor »

Here's my entry to the Vignette category of the LC16, for Loreos, in the Lands of Roawia roleplaying game. Enjoy!

Story:
Erathor pushed on into the city, clearing both alleyways and the main streets of Dragon soldiers. Allaeus, meanwhile, was leading his contingent atop the walls, moving onwards to the centre of the capital. He came to a point just above Erathor's position; a point where two sections of wall met each other, next to a large courtyard. Looking down, he saw his friend fighting in the street, trying to create a way through the Dragons so he could reach the courtyard too. This was the planned meeting point for the men of Sarenhold. Once the open space was secured, they could fight their way further into the city.
Allaeus looked about him. He only had a couple of captains accompanying him - the rest were clearing the walls over a large area. One Dragon knight, already wounded, threw himself at the Loreesi, but Allaeus simply stepped aside and pushed his spear into the man's gut. Seeing a banner leaning against one of the walls, Allaeus took it and held it high.
"For the Glory of Loreos!" he yelled, placing the banner upright in clear view of all around. He saw that Erathor was still fighting down below, but had obviously been spurred on by his friend's cry.
Smiling, Allaeus turned back to his captains; they were both on the floor, dead, and not a sound had been made by either of them. In the corner of his eye he noticed a glint of sunlight on metal, and he instinctively ducked away, evading the blade that sought to come down upon his head. He moved his spear towards the soldier approaching and, rather surprisingly, put him to the floor. However, in one brief moment, the Dragon was up on his feet, shield in hand, and was forcing Allaeus against the battlements. The Loreesi was pinned; his spear arm was useless, and he was completely at the mercy of his enemy. No words were spoken as the Dragon stepped back, and only Allaeus' scream broke their silence as a shield, red dragon emblazoned on it, was thrust towards his face, and he tumbled over the walls of Dalmanutha.

Erathor was pleased with the way Allaeus had carried out his task. When he raised the banner of Loreos Erathor was certainly reinvigorated, the fact that the army had even made it this far was impressive. The fight had not been easy; indeed, it was the hardest battle the lord had ever fought, but seeing that banner had given him so much more hope of winning this war, and retaking the capital for Prince Jarius. When Allaeus, having clearly lost his helmet and his shield, was attacked by the Dragon soldier, Erathor had been locked in combat under an arch, and his friend was out of his view. When the cry of terror reached his ears, and by the time he'd turned and reached out in vain, it was too late for Allaeus. He fell, and suddenly Erathor's hope was shattered, and all he could do was cry out in despair.

And so it was that Allaeus, knight of Loreos, passed from Roawia, whilst liberating his capital from the occupying enemy and having raised the Loreesi banner against all odds. He will be remembered throughout the ages.
