Battle of Bannockburn

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

Yesterday was the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn, a significant Scottish victory in their war of independence in which Robert the Bruce defeated the forces of Edward II of England. I couldn't find a MOC of the actual battle, so here are a couple of relevant MOCs. Cuahchic made this rendition of the Bannockburn monument (that's Robert the Bruce):

Robert Trevis-Smith made this for the March of the Gillies, a movement to preserve Gillies Hill.

Very cool. I have just watched The Quest for Bannockburn over the weekend and quite enjoyed it. They've cleaned the monument now so it's gone from the crusty green to the nice bronze which I'd imagine it looked when new (so not quite the grey in the MOC  )

Cool Monument, not a big fan of the Back stabber Robert the Bruce though - he murdered the Chieftain of Clan Comyn in cold blood in a church and also sent his brother to be King of Ireland where he caused widespread devastation
