New Hobbit set - the Lonely Mountain
Hey,
According to the Hollywood Reporter, LEGO is unveiling the next Hobbit set at ComicCon. This set is the Lonely Mountain (or elsewhere in the article it is called the Dragon's Lair, but I assume the official name is Lonely Mountain). It is 866 pieces, includes Bilbo, Balin, Dwalin, Ori and Gloin, and a molded Smaug. It is reported to run for $130. According to Comicbook.com it will be released in October (along with other Hobbit sets) but according to Brickset it will come out in November or December. Here is the full scale image from the Hollywood Reporter[/url]. So, what do you think?

Re: New Hobbit set - the Lonely Mountain
Well, the last two dwarves look like Fili and Kili, not Ori and Gloin, and I'm not sure what's up with the trans-green axe. Smaug looks OK, could be better. I'm still very tempted, though - and are those torches new pieces?

You're right, the two dwarves in that picture are Fili and Kili - I was just copying down the names I saw in the Hollywood Reporter article. I'm assuming the picture is right and the text is wrong. Good catch on the ice cream cone pieces. I have to say that I'm disappointed in Smaug. I'd much rather have a set that was all about a great brick-built dragon rather than a new molded dragon and part of the throne room.

Interesting set, but not my favorite. The new wing pieces are definitely a cool thing though.

I'm not sure if I like it or not. I do wish it had the Arkenstone in it. Or maybe I"m just not seeing it. I guess in my case, I'll need to see it in person to decide if I want it or not. I don't have anything in particular that I want to nitpick about it. I was excited to finally see Smaug.

Isn't the blue thing on the throne the Arkenstone?Bluesecrets wrote: I do wish it had the Arkenstone in it. Or maybe I"m just not seeing it.
I think Smaug looks better than expected. I agree with Bruce though that it'd have been nicer with a big brick built dragon. The rest of the set is somewhat strange I think. Throne looks quite good, but other than that.. well, you'd get a lot of gold pieces at least.

Set looks awesome, price looks not so good. Although I guess I can understand the new smaug mold cost a lot.

I like the black ice cream cones and the decent amount of sand green. Not sold on the set itself, especially for the price.

I'm not overly impressed with this… The biggest sets from LotR and the Hobbit have been, with the exception of Helms Deep, busts.

My initial thoughts were very negative, but after watching the video, I may have changed my mind. I will wait until I get the set until I know for sure, though.

Re: New Hobbit set - the Lonely Mountain
Major disappointment. Smaug I was hoping for a brick build one and the design of the set seems like it's lacking something. It's still a good set but I was expecting the set with Smaug to be equal to the awesomeness on Helm's Deep of Bag End. Again a nice set but very disappointing.
