Holiday Jingle ... er... Jambalaya!

Post by ludzik »

Morning everyone! The All Mighty, All Wise, All Seeing and All Knowing Admins have granted me permission to run a Holiday Jambalaya. What is Jambalaya you might ask? Well, it's a fun game where a box of Lego's makes its rounds and well... why should I write something from scratch - I will base mine on a very well written description by Bluesecrets (with slight modifications)

So how does this work.... I put stuff into a box, ship it to the next person, they pull some parts out and put some parts in and send it ot the next person. The rules as to how it works are as follows:

Without being a lego micromanager I would like for all to read the following and adhere to them.

1) Age…sorry but I am going to insist that everyone wanting to participate is over 16.

2) Third party parts… within reason - couple brick arms, brick warriors and so on pieces on a trade are fine just don't do ALL third party Lego accewsories in exchange for all Lego pieces. But please no Mega Blocks, no KREO and other Lego knock offs.

3) I know other jambalaya's have allowed this…but to me…it goes against the spirit of the whole thing. So, please no putting things in the box and saying it is for someone down the line. If you want to send something to someone, send it to them. Don’t waste space in the box and more importantly, don’t tease and tempt people with things in the box that they can’t have.

4) It is on your honor that you make sure the value of the items you remove gets replaced with equal or greater value.

5) Parts… various stuff fits and can be included as long as it makes sense in a castle build. Try to think if anyone used a specific part successfully in the past and base your additions on that, as a colorful bike, soccer ball, trash can don't really fit and should not be added as the Jamba after all all is Castle Based.....

6) The box…I’ll start with whatever box I can fit everything in. Use whatever box you think is good. I’m not going to demand you use Priority Shipping, although in a lot of cases it may be the cheaper option. If you don't use Priority Shipping you are on the hook for tracking and insurance. Remember Priority Shipping includes free insurance and tracking (https://www.usps.com/priority-mail/) If the package will be making it across the pond we'll discuss how to do it so that it's most economical and still protected.

7) Shipping…the only thing I care about in terms of shipping is this…if we go international, and I have absolutely no problem with that, I like it actually…please don’t ship it the slowest method possible.

8.) How long should the box be with you? That is up to you. Life exists. I know there are times when you don’t have the ability to do a turn around fast, or financially you have to wait for
payday. Keep it reasonable though please. The box should not really stay with you for more than a week. If you know that you will be traveling or expect a major life event that will prohibit you from being able to do a reasonable turn around during your "round" let me know and we can work on rearranging your position in line so that you don't have to stress about it. Btw, I would like to emphasise good communication is the key

9) Responsibility…not super happy to have to get all “real” and post this, because I would like to live in the little blue and pink bubble where everyone is responsible. But…I guess I must. If you are not going to be able to afford to ship the box, please keep that in mind before you sign up or before the box is coming to you. If you know you are the kind of person who will take months to ship the box, please keep that in mind. This is supposed to be for fun…please don’t make me suck all the fun out of it with having to private message you and bug you and bug you and bug you to get the box moving.

10) If you have any negative feedback regarding trading or are a newcommer with no feedback, please hit me up by PM before you sign up.

Well... it's time - lets get this ball rolling. I will start the Jambalaya when we have 5 people signed up. The upper limit is 15 and as the box is already moving you can still join (kind of like what they're doing with the Minifig Jambalaya over at Merlin's Beard).

As far as addresses go...this is to be kept PRIVATE!!!!! You share only with the person who ships to you. Respect the privacy of others please. Please post up though when you sign up country and state so that I can coordinate the order that makes sense.

Please add me to the list. I don't have to be second...I could be last. I also don't mind being the one to pay for international shipping if there is anyone international who would like to participate. Whatever works best.

Folks, please post up your rough location so that I can coordinate the list as appropriate. Country and state work for my needs. If you prefer for that info not to be public, PM me.

Oops sorry, ludzik missed that :) edited last post with location. Also didnt think about it because I have location in my profile. Also what would you think about doing a round robin where it goes up the list then back down kind of like the drafts? Just a thought.

I learned not to trust those locations ;)

That's an interesting thought - those signing up please indicate if you'd be interested in the round robin.

You are in. One more person and we can get this party started. I'll put you in position 5 when things start and if by the time it is time to ship to you there are no more Europeans I propose you do the differential shipment like last time.

Like I said, I'll be fine shipping international. So please put me as the person in front of andhe.

I am not sure about the round robin. I can see how it would be fun, but I wouldn't want andhe to have to ship international twice. And if you are say person 5 of 5..well you don't get to see the box twice. So I'm not sure about it. I'm fine with whatever the group decides.

Last time we just shipped the bits I wanted in return for the parts I was sending. In theory it sped up the shipping as I didn't have to wait for the whole box to cross the Atlantic (ludzik sent me a picture of the contents) and could ship my additions before my 'wants' had even arrived. Saved on shipping cost as well, but this only works if there's no-one else this side of the pond.

I'm happy to wait and see if a few more sign up.

Btw I thought about the round robin option and as tempting it might sound sound me I don't think it is a good idea. Couple issues - person at the tail end of the first round doesn't benefit from it. Person just after that person doesn't benefit as much as all they get to pick through is what the previous guy or gal exchanged. People who really benefit are those at the beginning so it becomes an uneven benefit to cost situation.

Also it is fun to see a new jambalaya start up every so often with a new base of parts rather then see same parts go througb back and forth.....

I'll leave the option of making theirs a round robin to the next person that runs one :)

Witha that said this is going to be as originally posted a traditional circular jambalaya

Thats cool ludzik :) my thoughts were once I thought about it a bit more is once it gets to the last person the pool is mixed/ randomized and then sent back out for a second round so to speak. The only reason i thought this if we only got 5 to participate just to give it a little more time to be out and give another chance for more great stuff to make its way in. In any case I am good with a standarad jam :)
