I used to think Jousting sets were stupid and over-priced.
is to blame for that. It's rather a shame to think that things have gotten so bad that I would rather have 6021 than any of the KK2 sets today. Oh well.
Anyway, 6060 was a massive improvement over 6021 in terms of joust sets and I spent many hours just staring at this set. Sadly, I was only 12 years old and never actually had $20 to buy it. Even when it was on sale for $15, I never had the money for it. If I could time travel back to that K-mart store 15 years ago, I would buy every one on the shelf, and then come back the next day to buy any that might have been re-stocked overnight.
Anyway, let's look at the parts selection. For $20, you would get:
2 horses (one is brown! I don't even own a brown horse!)
3 Black Knights
8x24 green baseplate
Weapons, shields, goblets, cups, ale keg
Ok, if it was just that stuff I listed already, I think most people here would buy this in multiples for $20. As a minifig and parts pack, this set is already top quality. People thirst for this set due to the parts and minifigs included.
But wait! There's also a bunch of red, white, yellow, and blue parts! You can build something with all of them! How does that look?
Well, there are two knights jousting. Each knight has a squire! They have never done something that cool in any joust set since then. There are also what appear to be a lord from each faction sitting under the pavilion watching the joust. There is a lady under the pavilion which is a nice departure from the kings found in most joust sets. (That really old one from 1980 had a lord and a lady though...) A peasant to serve drinks completes the lineup. So very complete.
The pavilion is a bit small and simple looking, but you have to remember that this is a $20 set with less than 200 parts. I would say they did a good job of maximizing what they had to work with here, but the set design is not something that will drop your jaws with it's details or cleverness.
Playability looks to be high. Two knights to joust is a great start. But you still have 6 other mini figures. That should keep any imagination active for a while. Unfortunately, the parts included don't have enough variety to allow you to build much else with this set.
Anyway, this will be a rarity for me, and I will give this set numerical ratings out of 10:
