Castle goes to Space contest - announcement, questions
Announcing the 'Castle Goes to Space' contest. You have two options: take an official Castle* set and 'spacify' it, or take an official Space* set and 'castlify' it. Make the Yellow Castle into a moonbase, or put battlements on the Alpha 1 Rocket Base. See how well you can mash these themes together.

Prize:
If fewer than 12 people participate, the winner will receive 70806 Castle Cavalry. If 12 or more people participate a second prize will be added.
Rules:
1. Anyone can participate. We'd love to see what our spacer friends can come up with for this.
2. Entries are to be based on official Castle or Space sets. We will interpret those categories loosely. E.g. Castle can include Ninja, Tolkien, or other Castle-friendly themes. Space can include Star Wars, Life on Mars, and other space or sci-fi themes. If you have questions about whether a set is valid or not, ask the judges below in this thread.
3. Each entry should be submitted to the entry thread. In that thread, include links to two pictures that will be judged (you can have unlimited pictures online, but we will judge based on those two images). Also list what set you are modifying it.
4. No size limit for entries except the set you are modifying. That is, your entry should be roughly on the same footprint as the original set.
5. No size limits on images posted elsewhere, but if you include an image in your forum post it needs to fit our forum guidelines (400 pixels tall, 500 pixels wide).
6. No limit on the number of entries per participant.
7. Judging will take into account both how well your modified set fits the original and how well it fits into its new theme.
8. Deadline, Midnight September 30, anywhere in the world.

Re: Castle goes to Space contest - announcement, questions
So the idea is to combine space and castle elements in a MOC based on an official set from a Space or Castle theme?
Or is it to make a MOC of an official set from Space into a Castle MOC, or vice versa?
From the description it seems the former, but I just wanted to make sure

You are to take a set and change it. If it is space...make it castle. If it is castle...make it space.

More this one. To give an example, This is a variation on the Time Twisters contest we did a few years ago. Aliencat took the Star Wars set 7749, Echo Base, and made a castle variation:soccerkid6 wrote: Or is it to make a MOC of an official set from Space into a Castle MOC, or vice versa?

I like the idea. It will be like asking a pro basketball player to play baseball for an inning except we'll use expert castle builders instead.

This looks interesting, I'm sure we're going to see some clever entries and techniques used.

Awesome contest! I'll try to participate.

I'm finding myself very busy these days, but I will make an effort to get an entry in! Great contest idea, and Aliencat's Medieval Hoth is very inspiring for this.

Re: Castle goes to Space contest - announcement, questions
Greetings, this seems like a fun contest, since I'm new here a couple of questions though,
Is it alright to take parts from the castle or space set your basing your build on and use them in your conversion?
Under Castle do also fall say something like vikings or huns for example or does it have to be strictly medieval?

Re: Castle goes to Space contest - announcement, questions
You are certainly welcome to use the bricks from the set you are modifying, but you are not required to (i.e. this is not an 'alternate build' competition). As the commercial goes (okay, went) (30 years ago) (yes, I'm old), 'parts is parts'.Isundir wrote: Is it alright to take parts from the castle or space set your basing your build on and use them in your conversion?
'Castle' is interpreted very broadly, so yes, huns, vikings, etc are fair game.Isundir wrote: Under Castle do also fall say something like vikings or huns for example or does it have to be strictly medieval?
Please promote this around the LEGO community. Here's another image to use:
