"Set" 853967 - Wooden Minifigure

Post by Bruce N H »

Hi all,

Not brand new news, but in December LEGO released this sculpture, 853967 - Wooden Minifigure. A little pricey (US$120), but IMO this is gorgeous and would make a great decoration for an AFOL's home or office.

It's made of solid oak, and is not pose-able aside from the plastic hands, which are appropriate size to grasp a round 2x2 brick, so you can build accessories for it. On LEGO.com they encourage you to paint, glue, or otherwise modify to make your own artwork.

Has anyone gotten this? If so, did you modify it or keep it as is? Personally I think I'd keep it as the natural wood, if anything stain it to a darker color, but I'd love to see what others do.

BTW, Brothers Brick has a review here, including this pic that helps show the scale:

I certainly would not turn this down, but it's a bit too expensive for me at the moment.

I doubt I would customize it. Looks good as it is, except maybe the hands. The bright yellow does look a bit odd.

Hey all,

I found a related creation. Musicalbrick's father is a woodworker and built his own giant wood minifigure. It's larger than the recent official product, fully articulated, and IMO much prettier with the different woods used.

One of my LUG members had someone else custom build wooden figs like this one...at a much bigger cost. The cost is why I won't buy the wooden one. I was really interested in it when it first showed up. But to get it I'd have to decided new modular or this wooden fig. New modular wins that argument every day and twice on Sunday when it comes to my budget.
