Harry Potter summer 2020 sets - Centaurs!

Post by Bruce N H »

Hey all,

LEGO released news of the 6 upcoming Harry Potter sets, coming in June. See all the images in BricksFanz's Flickr stream.

75967, Forbidden Forest: Umbridge's Encounter - This one is the big news IMO - two centaurs! And in a set small enough that it would be economical to get a couple of sets on sale. I know there are custom centaur elements available, but it's great to get an official one (and not that blue cartoony centaur body in a Trolls set).

75969, Hogwarts Astronomy Tower - This is the other one that will be good for castle builders. As with all of the Hogwarts sets there are a lot of good useful construction pieces in a tan color scheme. Oh, and I'm not 100% familiar with HP sets from the last year or so but I think that flying owl element is new.

75966, Hogwarts Room of Requirement - New animal molds for an otter (Hermione's patronus) and a hare (Luna's patronus). It would be great if we could get these in natural colors. Of course, I'm still waiting for Harry's stag patronus to come out in brown. There are two technic bricks in the wall on the right - do these newer HP sets fit together in a modular way? Like remember how the the original wave of HP sets from like 20 years ago (yes, I'm old) stacked on top of eachother?

75968, 4 Privet Drive - Aside from basic bricks/plates there's nothing much here for castle builders, except it does have that new flying Hedwig. Also I like that shrub in front of the house.

75980, Attack on the Burrow - Aside from basic bricks/plates there's nothing much here for castle builders, except it does have that new flying Hedwig, a perched owl, and a pig. I think that flame element hasn't been in that trans-orange-fade-to-trans-smoke color before, so that expands the catalog of flame pieces. Oh, has the brick separator been in teal before? All of mine of that style are orange.

75979, Hedwig - From that crank on the side I assume this isn't a static model, but flaps its wings, so that's cute. Aside from basic bricks/plates there's nothing much here for castle builders, except it does have that new flying Hedwig.

I do see a new curved tile element. You can see it on the Hedwig sculpture by the eye and on the Hogwarts Astronomy tower at the top of some of the windows. At least I assume it's new (I'm less familiar with all the new releases these days). It will be interesting to see where that shows up in other sets and how AFOLs use it.

Well now these look like some pretty nice sets. I mean those centaurs are just great looking. Honestly this whole wave of sets look really good. I haven't bought a Harry Potter set is such a long time but these I may pick up one or two.

Same here. The otter and hare appear to be more normal/realistic shaped compared to the cartoony style of Friends animals. Hopefully that means that, like the stag, we will see them in future sets in natural colors.

Yes, they definitely look better than my Narnian centaurs. Once they come out, I'd like to take a close look comparing the LEGO centaur body to the Brickforge one.

Hey all,

BrickFanz got a polybag set 30420: Harry Potter & Hedwig Owl Delivery. Not much of a set, but some good closeups of the new owl mold. No real reason to get this set unless you just want that owl and aren't buying any of the other sets. Or, I suppose, if you need more generic Gryffindor torsos to create other characters from the books (though, c'mon, if you've bought any HP sets you've already got a bunch of Gryffindor torsos - it's Hufflepuffs you're probably missing most).

I went crazy and bought 8 sets of the 75967 Forbidden Forest: Umbridge's Encounter!
Creating a new army of centaurs!
I'm not sure if I should integrate them into an existing human army or create a new beast-men army.
The Giants are a great additions too!

Hey LK,

Just clarifying because I haven't seen dis-assembled pictures. I'm assuming the horse body has the same pegs as you find on the top of a pair of legs, right?
