CCC XIX: Aurora Frees Maleficent's Wings

Post by josdu »

Hey all! I'm super excited to be entering the CCC again! It's not likely I'll do very well, but it's so much fun to enter, especially with the epic categories that the runners of the contest came up with, big thank you to them for inspiring this build :woo: !

This is my entry to the category 2. Build a scene from your favorite castle inspired movie. I remembered this scene from Maleficent (2014) where Aurora frees Maleficent's wings, and I really wanted to copy the thing with that majestic dark lighting, and every single detail I could see, along with the floor which I figured would be similar to the floor from the throne room scene with dark green triangles on dark tan. Here are some more shots of the whole room:

I really am happy with how this MOC turned out, and I hope you like it as well! As always, C&C are much appreciated, thank you for checking it out! More entries soon  !

The columns, leaded glass window, and all of the mosaics/containers are all really great! Can you give us some more info on how you got all of those lattices to line up?

Thank you! I wish I had gotten a picture now that you ask me!

I first checked the approximate angles I would need, and then the two at the top I attached to eachother easily enough since they were at right angles to eachother. Then I used clips which it took a while to get right to attach the ones below that, one on the right and one on the left. After that I just slipped the two at the top into the space where they just fit (I had to build the arch around them). So those ones are just resting in there.

The unfortunate thing is that of course there is some overlapping, so the edge is not perfect. For example, one of the top ones sticks out about a halfstud more in front of the other, and likewise with the other two below, which are in front of the straight ones. You can tell in some pictures, but in others it looks pretty streamlined!

Thanks for asking, AK, always glad to explain my MOCs, hope it came out clearly enough  .

I don't normally comment on MOC's because I'm usually too busy doing a million things but I need to tell you this.

First, I am a HUGE Sleeping Beauty fan...HUGE. It was the first movie I watched with my parents. She's my favorite princess and my favorite princess movie. I adore almost all things Sleeping Beauty...except the Maleficent movies. Why? Because Maleficent is epic as evil. I don't want her to be someone I relate to. I don't want to change my perception of her evilness. So no, I don't like those movie AT ALL.

BUT...

This build, I couldn't take my eyes off. This build had me looking up the scene in google...because I'm not watching that movie again...ever. But WOW. Everything AK pointed out, I was going to. I was waiting until I had finished my judging to comment.

Thank you for building this.

It means a great deal to receive a comment from you! I have to agree with your impressions! From a moral stand point, I would not want to show my kids the movie, for example, haha.

But thank you! Thank you so much, it really means a lot to me to have won the category and to have your praise! When I saw the theme of the category I felt pressured to do my best. All LEGO scenes are what I specialize at, so I had high hopes of winning, and I can only thank you back for the opportunity and for the inspiring category!
