In the day of modular design, this was a nice little set. You could play right away with it, or plug it into a larger design (kinda of like taking two 6074s and making something the size of a 6080). A proper number of minifigs in the days before skimping. The two drawbacks I would note is that once you start plugging the modular sections together you start finding a profusion of gates, and the wheel design for the trebuchet, which I find visually lacking.

WAYYY back in the day, when I gleaned knowledge of my favourite sets from endless staring at catalogues, Black Knights were my favourite Castle theme, and this, being a Black Knight set, was much stared at...
I still wish I had it. It's a great parts pack, and comes with five figs. The catapult actually looks pretty-good, and with some real wheels would be killer. The knight is obviously the senior Falcon Knight, maybe the Falcon king, with that Euro armour, although he and all the figs look slightly off... As Jojo noted, they don't quite match the standard of their factions.
Still a great set, and one that you can forget me passing up if I ever find it...
Parts: 7.5/10
Playability: 8.5/10
Figs/Accessories: 8.5/10
Design (then): 6.5/10
Design (now): 7.5/10
Nostalgia: 8.5/10
Overall Score: 7.83/10

I agree with some of the others- the Black Falcon knight is one of my favorite minifigs of all time, along with the one from Black Monarch's Ghost and the knight with white plumes in the Black Knight's Castle. I don't have this set, so I'm not sure how well it works with other black castles. This looks like a good starter set. Man, all these set reviews makes me wish I had a bigger allowance when I was a kid.
I have four of these sets, and when you link them all together, they look fantastic! LEGO, bring back the old days where I stared at the catalogs dreaming of what sets I would get next...

I think this is a fantastic set. The only drawbacks being the lack of proper wheels, "Black Knight's" who are far to red, and the "Black Falcon" archer should have a BF torso. I'm not sure why he has that plate torso...
Great set though. I have never owned one myself, but a friend of mine did have this set in his collection which I played with quite frequently. Odds are I won't own this set anytime soon however, as I am trying to buy sets with mostly grey or with BF figs in them (and since the archer doesn't have a proper BF torso, I'm afraid this set doesn't qualify).
I'd give this an 8 of 10. Highly pleasing set in my eyes.

This was the first castle set I ever played with, that and the joust (I forget its name). For years until I could get my own castles, I used to steal those doors and the jail piece for my own use. Not the best set, but because of its sentimental value, I'm giving it an 8/10

I love this set. Its one of those timeless, lovable, unique sets that TLG used to produce. Sadly, the best KK2 set to be found is Vladek's dark fortress... and thats about it.
Respectfully submitted,

I fell in love with this set when I first saw it in the catalog in 1990 and wasn't able to get one until 2000. I wish lego had more modular wall sections with black walls like the numerous ones they had with gray walls. The only thing wrong with it is the trebuchet design. It doesn't really work and isn't big enough.

Have it, and I must say it's nice. True, when walls fold there are gaps. But it's not such a big deal. You get decent number of figures, weapons etc and the walls and gates themselves look pleasant.
The catapult looks ok to me, but it reall doesn't work. I assembled it just a few days ago, just to see it again. Well I was rather surprised to see the missile just fall down instead of being launched. Back than when I first made it, I didn't even figure that it's supposed to launch using the counterweight (very probably because, as I said, it doesn't). So I made it bigger and bigger and bigger, and added the heavy bricks I got with one very old tanker set, and now it works like it should, but it's bigger than the fort. And it even doesn't launch when that axis is removed, but it's really pulled down by a string on rotating axis, like the real thing. So it doesn't look much like it's supposed predecessor, but the concept is same, and it's certainly sane (altough badly done in the set).
Altogether, a very good set. It's nothing legendary, but still an order of magnitude in front of anything I've seen produced lately.

This is one of the sets I still drool over, I wish Lego still produced these. I don't have it, but it still looks cool.

Definitely a cool set. And strangely enough, I have always had a soft spot for the crummy treb. Yes, it doesn't work, etc. But it is the first (and only?) time Lego has tried to make one. So at least they tried and it was way before the current hollywood fascination with trebs (very few people had heard of them 5 years ago and now they are in almost every new medieval type movie). And they even put solid wheels on it! But it is still crappy...okay, okay I tried.

I like this set, in my opinion the best LG disigned siege set. The catapult looks good, and the figs are nice. There are many weapons and figs in this set, and a euro armour. And all pieces are very useful.
