My plan for a medieval city...

Post by Zacku »

I've been contemplating where I've gone wrong with all of the castles I've built in the past: They were too simple. So, now I've decided to make a city. However, I can't decide on which. Should I make Falconis, the Black Falcon city, or Darconia, the Black Knights' city. Both are located on the border of the Dark Forest. I've decided what would be the advantages and disadvantages of building each would be:

Falconis
Pro:
*Gray Castle walls so I can use a Guarded Inn set with it.
*Black Falcons never had a big castle
*More "castle wall" sets
Cons:
*I don't have many Black Falcons. :P
*Gray castle walls are harder to find

Darconia
Pro:
*More variants of black wall
*Black Knights are more universal
*I have more Black Knights
Cons:
*Can't use the Guarded Inn

Anyone have any suggestions?

Well I'm gona build a city with a huge wall buitl around it and Im ona make the wall halow so the actual castle wil be built into the wall. I'm also gona build a long wall stiking out from the main one with a platform on it for myt air ship. I'll post it. You should make the black knights first then go to briklink so u can make the falcons. :D

You can turn all of those Black knights into Black Falcons using decals :P and then you'd have a whole army! You can also use my BF euro armour decals on the black euro armour peices that come with the new smaller viking set. (which you buy multiple copies of, and then you'd have stacks of wolves which could be great with your castle) Sorry I just had to advertise my decals in there somewhere.

Anyway, GO FALCONS!

Though Falcons are my favorite, I have to say go with the Black Knights. Your only con in your Darconia list was the fact that you couldn't use the Guarded Inn. You obviously have more Black Knight figs and pieces anyway.

Idea! If you have any extra black wall pieces, you could use those in the Guarded Inn!

I suggest that you think of better names for your cities, kinda boring names if you ask me.

Even if Dragon Master's reply may seem as an insult, I must agree. I usually give the countries' the boring names though...

I usually go germanish names for Black Falcons and Latin names for Black Knights(I usually portay them as northern italians or franks).

I would rebuild guarded inn to fit, since Black Knights is obviously the way to go. If you had more falcons however, I would say FALCONS4EVER! :P

Yeah, I agree. You need to make up your names, like what I did to my town; Venolia! :P

Sounds like you've been studying eyes in biology class.

I'm terrible at making up names, so my advice here might not be the best. Regardless, I would suggest reading a fantasy novel by a good author and drawing name ideas from that.

Cornea sounds, not to be rude but... reminds of the word "corny"...

A method I used to my more serious stories than "The Sorcerors Return" (now Im just taking the first best name I come up with) is to start with the name of an actual city, character country etc. First choose a city from a land you want your faction to be identified with, lets say England:

York
Merk
Lork
Lorge

And attach a fitting word if wanted...
Yorkshire
Norkshire
Lokshire
Mokshire

Mix...(with London)
Lonork
Yorolnd

I think you can do better... These are quickies.

Of course, doing this can turn the

final name into some thing completely not-so-english, but anyways.

My two favorite names made by this process are the parallels to England and France Ive made up and used in many of my stories just for the fun names- Scoveland and Roance.

Well, I've been doing some work on it and I have 35 black castle walls ordered from Bricklink. I've taken some inspiration from the other castles I've seen, most notably the Falke Vine castle. I have a horse stable and the barracks being worked on, with the King's Palace and the Inn being complete. I have yet to build the blacksmith's shop and I'm considering buying the HP "Shrieking Shack" set to modify into a house. What else does the city need? Any help would be appreciated.

That's pretty open-ended, so there's lots of things you can add! I suggest a marketplace. Marketplaces always give a nice touch of color to any layout. Have fun, and keep us posted!

Why are you planning a town? A good town is built up over many years, with a variety of building styles and ending up looking what might be called 'ugly' but is actually 'natural'.

As for the buildings, try making buildings that haven't been made by other people yet. I'd like to see a sign painter, blown-up and re-blown-up alchemist shop :D , and of course the marketplace. And people always like an inn to visit.
