Wow! Ths will be a Christmas present for my younger son. He LOVES airplanes, and is just getting into LEGO, so this will be a no brainer.
Thanks for the review and pics, Bloody Jay.
And BTW, the passenger two figure has the old space logo on his jacket! Pretty cool little figure.

That's been used in two other sets, it's a great little civilian torso.Tristram wrote:Wow! Ths will be a Christmas present for my younger son. He LOVES airplanes, and is just getting into LEGO, so this will be a no brainer.

Yeah. This may not be much of a good set for us castle folk...but DANG IT, I want this set. For very little apperent reason except...I want it.Bruce N H wrote:This set does look good and does have some interesting elements. I'll probably Bricklink a couple of the figs and the new printed control panel slopes. However, I just can't justify getting something like this that's full of large single use hunks of ABS (yes, I know, I fully expect to see huge gundam/mecha things use those wings, and the cockpit piece would be great in a spaceship, but nothing much for castle) (though I agree that the bottom pieces could be good for a boat). I probably have a much smaller collection than most of the major builders around here, and so I have to pick my purchases much more strategically.
I'm wierd.
Any way, I will buy it sometime. I'm not at all deterred by the price tag. 10 cents a part is cool with me. And really, I think I could use most if not all of those parts. I do build in other themes, you know...

Now, if this was a $50 set, I'd probably be REALLY griping, but as is...
I want it. Curse you, Jay.

Excellent! And curse you again, Jay. Each time I load this thread I want that plane more and more...Bloody Jay wrote:It's really grown on me over the last day. Great set.
Stay tuned for Airport Fire Truck, Ambulance, and Rescue Copter. Should be within a week (maybe a little more for the Fire Truck).
Will you, perhaps, be reviewing the airport sometime?

More pics, including a shot of all the large "clunky parts", can be seen here:

Funnily enough, none of those parts bug me, except, perhaps, the rear fuselage.

Nah, Calum Tsang recently showed that you can build a great airplane section out of bricks in a 10x8 space:SavaTheAggie wrote:You'll have to buy some of the top sections, too, Bruce. From what I can tell, they look like 8x8, perfect for Airplane the movie vignettes!

I'm sure with some fiddling this could easily compress down by a couple of studs. Or take a slice out of a 16-wide plane like my recent slice of a bus in Rosa Parks.

Jay, is that tail fin logo a sticker or printed on? I think I might get two of these planes and convert one over to cargo duties, and I want it to be a different logo/color scheme than the passenger plane.
P.S. Keep up the good work on the photo reviews you do, I look forward to the rest of the 2006 line.
