I've got around to updating my site finally. If you head over to http://www.minifig.co.uk/default.asp?id=18 you can my new (and some not so new) Viking mocs. Some of them have been on Brickshelf for a little while, some are new. Shortly before the Viking range came out I quite fancied
having a go at how I'd like to see the range, which of course ended up nothing like the actual range
Let me know what you think
thanks
(p.s anyone having problems with messages to Lugnet not showing up? .. bloomin Lugnet)

Aside from horns and plate armor, very nice work! I love the detailed buildings, so many arches and things makes it look like real viking craftmanship! Jolly good work!

Ok, so I've mixed norse and viking together here sorry. The viking figures were added for convinience ... please take the matter of horned helmets up with LEGO. Romas, my brother in law went to Norway last year and its his photos that inspired these buildings, the black rooves (dripping with pitch in the photos) and the style. Amongst them were some photos of a wooden church which totally blew me away. If I can work the angles for the many roof pitches into LEGO I'l love to do one. Ziggy, I took some photos of the original little hut for my friend William, so he could see how to make one http://www.maj.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=110384 . I was going to take the folder down but I'll leave it there a bit longer. Sorry for the rough photos but it will give you an idea. Unfortunately they are a little bare inside, Im notoriously bad for interior'ing (if thats a word). The tents were made as a simple way to fill space for a display but I only got around to making two so they didnt fill up much. Some photos of the display are here http://personal.earlsoft.co.uk/gallery. ... 6/Vikings/ The other buildings are all by William Howard

Cool stuff.
I like these a lot. They're really realistic looking.

Yeah, maybe like Teup's. That would be awesome to see another, different stave church.Romas wrote:but you could give it a shot and try to build one of those scadinavian wooden churches.

Hey James,
Great Viking creations! I actually posted when you put a couple of these on Brickshelf in January. I really like how you took your village building design and made small changes to give a variety. I agree that changing up the angle of the roofs would add more variety in the display. Great photo-editing, too. In the display, are there close-up pictures of William's buildings? There aren't any in his Brickshelf gallery.

Spectacular job James! As with all MOCs I love, the combination of simplistic design, with good details, makes such a winning combo. These are no exception. They really give the feel of viking/norse living quarters. The curved slopes at the peaks of the eaves are sweet!
I love how the houses are so simelar, but each different, quite possibly how they were. Also, how simelar the hall is to the houses, but kinda 'grander'(?)... Duh, again, they would have very simelar building techniques for their large places as well as their small buildings, why do I never think of that?
Thanks bunches for posting them. Keep MOC-ing.

Blue Hut
Grain Barn (the 2x2 cones topped by 3x3 radar dishes at the corners are meant to be mushroom stones (but I didn't have any grey radar dishes to hand)
All pictures (when moderated)
10 oar longship (when moderated)
These are all excellent!
The tents, huts, and hall are all very good and look extremely well and historically accurate.
I really love that Viking hall....hopefully a future lego viking set will include a hall kinda like this!
Excellent pictures as well!
