The "Missionary" Activities on CC
The "Missionary" Activities on CC
I see the previous thread on "Religious Stuff" was locked but there seem to be people here who do not want to keep their beliefs to themselves.
The reasons for posting this:
1. Shortly after joining CC I started receiveing some "Christian" propaganda on my e-mail and have eversince encountered several such messages coming from different servers as to avoid the anti-spam filter. I must point out that except for CC I use that e-mail address only for my private correspondence and have had no such problems for more than 6 years till now.
2. There have been certain posts concerning different congregations, "Bible quizzing" (?!) competitions, etc. which have nothing to do with LEGO. I am not against showing religious deviation as long as it is in a way that doesn't offend other people - there are enough non-christian CC members. A LEGO-fan site is not the right place to preach.
3. And the tip of the iceberg: Someone has just posted a link to a site called "The Brick Testament". At first I thought it was some kind of a Biblical story for children but after taking a closer look it turned out to be the most disgusting brick MOC ever as there is an "unique" mixture of twisted representations of certain moments in the Bible, but also displays of mistreatment of women and other races. I am not the religious type but this time I felt really offended because using bricks for such purposes is really SICK!
So, please bare in mind that as long as there is an official religion on this site it's LEGO! All the rest elsewhere!

For what it's worth, The Brick Testament is a well-respected website in the LEGO community.
OTOH, I heard that the FBI flags you as a potential pedophile if you visit that site.

Hmm,
I've never gotten spam at my LEGO e-mail address, so I would be surprised if some automated system snagged your e-mail address off these forums.
To all,
Harassing other forum members by e-mail or PM is viewed in the same way as harassment in forum threads and will be punished accordingly (warnings, suspensions, bannings).
On the other hand, let's not have a big debate on the Brick Testament.

Well, I don,t take it that way since in our country we are used to make fun of everything except, of course, death, illnesses, etc.OTOH, I heard that the FBI flags you as a potential pedophile if you visit that site.
My point was that such content may be potentially harmfull to minors. And since bricks are generally (hate to say that) toys there are a lot of children visiting CC and they do not always make right judgements. I believe you agree on that.
Thank you for your consideration.
Regards,
Ivan

All missionaries preaching on CC have been dealt with. If you have been privately PMed content by someone that you object to, please privately contact an admin.
As for the Brick Testament, do note that the site does have an a disclaimer and rating system warning about the content:
http://www.thebricktestament.com/
I know some object to the Brick Testament, but it is LEGO-related, and when it is featured on CC, it's for it's clever use in bricks, not for the messages or illustrations.

If you don't want to get spam, you should get a gmail account. Gmail has great spam filters and I haven't had any spam since I switched to gmail. I did get spam when I first joined C-C, but my email server had bad filters.
The Brick Testament may be to mature for children, but you have to recognize that it has many good customs and MOCs. I don't know why that has to do with pedophilia, but the FBI's been wrong before...

Decrying the Brick Testament is, in itself, preaching. You are not keeping your religious beliefs (that the Brick Testament is "twisted" and "sick") to yourself, and thus going against your own request that people do otherwise. This is called hypocrisy.
Hypocrisy is bad.
This is why policy is dealt with by Admins as impartially as possible and off-topic threads do not belong on C-C.
Once again, and again and again, topics such as these, should be dealt with via the private message feature. If you have a problem with another member, or suspect foul play, contact that member or a C-C Team member.
I swear the next member to post a public complaint about another member, or just the generic atmosphere, because of religious context, or for any other personal reason for that matter, in a post(s), will be banned, at least if I have my way.
I say this not to belittle anyone's personal beliefs, just to belittle their assertion that they have a right to clutter the forum. I also don't mean to discourage anyone from private messaging their concerns or problems to a C-C Team member. But do so privately.

The thing that you mentioned about Bible Quizzing should be okay I think. Suvied is just trying to raise money for something he wants support, and when he says how the kids are doing I think he's trying to tell people that there money is going somewhere. If Suvied said "Your money is going to support a non-profit organiztion" would you have a problem with it? You'd probably want to know what that non-profit organization is right? He's just letting everyone know.

I agree with that and I believe it's a noble and generous deed.
I was annoyed by the other things I've mentioned and believe me I have more than enough reasons to be annoyed.
As far as I'm concerned this discussion is over and everyone have the right to draw their own conclusions.

After joining this forum I have started to wonder if Lego is a huge draw to vocally religious people. I've had no experiences with spam/propaganda, just making observations. If it's a PM, I think you should tell a moderator in private if it is bothering you. I have absolutely no problem seeing religious MOC's or anything else for that matter. I'd hate to think that creating MOC's which express my beliefs would be banned from posting...

Ok I know we're not rehashing the brick testament, but I just wanted to point something out:
Brendan Powell Smith is an Atheist. He started work on TBT after reading the bible out of curiosity. TBT isn't so much "christian propaganda" as it is a personal project for him. I find it to be a great resource since I can use it to brush up on my own lack of biblical knowledge (especially cause, even though his stories are summaries, he doesn't leave a single detail out) and enjoy his great creations at the same time.

I'm a little confused by your complaint, as your signature (and the motto of the crest you use as an avatar) is Latin for "If God is with us, who shall be against us?".ragnarok wrote:Si Deus Nobiscum Quis Contra Nos!
Hoping to have a witty signature and cool avatar one day.

I am a Christian, Lutheran to be exact, I will say that, and I personally don't like some of the Brick Testament's ideas and conclusions about what the Bible says. And that's just me, not my congregation. My curch hasn't outlawed it or anything, I would bet that I'm the only one who knows about it. However, I do enjoy his creations, and, like BreadMan says, it is a great resource for brushing up on the Biblical facts. Such Biblical summaries seem to be very hot on the market right now for Christians, and did you know that Brendan Powell Smith even published some of his Brick Testament from the net into a book? I got it from the library once, and it's a great book.
