This is a dumb question probably asked lots of times, but;
How far forward in time periods can we go? Because after all, even after gunpowder, the castles still played an important part? And for that matter how far backwards can you go? Pyramids for example? or Barbarians? Thanks! Looking forward to start building :) !

7. The medieval timeframe used for the CCC is between the sacking of Rome in 410 and the great London fire of 1666.

It's that time of year again :D Haven't had much time for lego lately, but for the CCC, I'll make time!

Great idea creating two miscellaneous categories, I approve.

Whoohoo! It's here! Looking forward to all the amazing creations! :D

Is it possible for an entry to have an opening feature that would have the whole MOC split in two if the original footprint was well within the guidelines? An example of what I mean would be the Blacksmiths shop. I can see a nice fairy tale castle with an opening feature. :)

8. Yes, we have had entries like that before. As long as the "closed" version fits in the size guidelines.

Are cannons and other early gunpowder weapons allowed in this?
Of us, the ancient legends told,
We will return
The folk of old,
To help to free the yonder land
Of evil that is close at hand.

See Ben's answer 7 above - use technology from 410 to 1666. See this Wikipedia article on gunpowder artillery in the Middle Ages.

Fall of Rome to the great fire of London.

But what about fantasy based MOCs? Say for instance Conan the Barbarian or LOTR(albeit fictional eras) ??? Both are set befor known history, but resemble middle ages enough to be legit for the CCC. Other fantasy franchises (like a song of fire and ice and many others or) are set in completely different worlds. "Masters of the Universe" has castles and sword fights but also aircrafts and laser guns)

What about steampunk? ... or if a creation that includes time travellers... or aliens crashing in castle (writing this i get the idea of aliens interfering in a crusade)?

When it says 'composite images' are you referring to a photo collage? Or can it be a .Gif file that simply shows the function on a loop like this: http://giphy.com/gifs/lego-12TY8vfPyfSePK

I remember seeing an entry like this I think back during CCCX though I may be wrong so I just wanted to check.

Thanks in advance!

9. Fantasy should still fall within basic castle era tech, albeit with magic thrown in. We have had some "fantasy tech" before, like some machine built by dwarves, but that doesn't mean you can just use Clarke's third law to drive a whole bunch of modern vehicles in. "Castle fantasy" that is technically set in other timelines is fine (e.g. Tolkien sets his stories in the distant pre-history of modern earth, but they are still recognizably medieval in nature).

First time competing and I'm definitely excited. Looking forward to the onslaught of great builds. :)

I have a few questions regarding various categories. First, for Fairy Tale Castle: How much interpretation are you allowing here? What's the limit you'd consider a to be a fairy tale? And second, for the two Miscellaneous ones: Are we allowed to go a little out of the ordinary for these? Like, a medieval World Series? Or a parallel universe?

What are the categories? I can't find a list of what all the categories are. Is there a page that lists all the challenges and the categories for each challenge?
