A disappointment. I was a bit let down to find that the good knight was just the solitary KK1 footsoldier ('John of Mayne') with a helmet added, and that the bad knight was just Cedric, just how many sets did he have to be in? The spinning thing, whilst technically having some historical basis, feels very juniorised. There are some nice parts if you use old colours and the horses are good but beyond that I don't like this set. 3/10.

I found this set at a clearance store for like $3 in 2004. Needless to say I picked it up; this set is from my dark ages so I never had a chance to like or dislike the KK line when it was out. I love the bad guy, but the rest of the set is mediocre. I like the good knight, his torso and legs are great, but the helmet looks ridiculous without the armour. Overall this set is ok if you get it a good price, and esp if you need any more lion-head bricks

It does not have a very good design and it is a little overpriced, but it does have some good play ability with the rotating axes and the knights. It also has some pretty good pieces, accessories, and weapons. Overall I would give it about a 6/10.

Bias declared: Knights Kingdom 1 is my favorite LEGO product.

To start with it was always going to be difficult to adequately represent a Knights Tournament in a 99 Piece count set containing only 3 minifigs (King Leo, Richard the Strong and Cedric the Bull).

Cleary the 1988/89 set 1584/6060 Knight's Challenge containing 160 pieces and 8 minifigs is a good benchmark set for a Knights Tournament this KK1 Set is more like an informal joust.

In typical KK1 Style it is Richard the Strong, Leo’s best and favorite knight that must joust with Cedric.

Given that Cedric the Bull was the sworn enemy of King Leo and obsessed with taking over his castle it seems odd he was invited to the tournament or maybe he wasn’t invited.

KK1 Literature quotes that Cedric is the 13th son of a King and a very good horseman, and can be a real challenge to Richard.

My strongest criticism of this set is the lack of minifig and horse armour/barding it really highlights the lack of diversity within the KK1 range.

The range released in 2000 included only 8 mini figs and one skeleton (Benjamin Bones) in total, all were named, there were no generic minifigs. (Not including the redux set 10176: King's Castle)

I dislike the red animal Horse Head Armor with Wings originally from the Dragon Masters sets from 1993 with the added Bulls horns.

In the LEGO Comic Knights Kingdom Medieval Mischief and Mayhem 2000 even Richard’s horse has some.

It would have been better for the range if the later KK2 Animal Horse Head Armor with Plates still being used well now had been developed in time for KK1.

Wow, Mario, thanks for the info, I never knew there was so much back story to this line. I'm going to have to find those comics somewhere online now & read them all.

I love this set. Only because of the fact that my best man bought me this & the original Slave One as my part of his wedding gift to us Of course that didn't stop it from being parted out eventually

I like the set. It was small, had horses, and color. The one thing I really enjoyed about KKI was that it had a similar feel to the classic sets, but definitely had its own identity with the named character to the brighy colored pieces.

I don't think anything will stack up to my Black Falcons, or the other old school sets, but this set, as with all of KKI was a worthy entry. I would have liked to have seen the line continue.

Ah, I remember this set so clearly... it was my very first castle set, i fell in love with this thing... but now all its parts have gone into characters for my factions...

8/10 is my rating, I'm biased in favor of KK1.

I really like the stained glass window piece in this set, it looks really similar to the classic knights with the first printed torsos.

I didn't mind this line but I'd have to say this is one my least fav KKI sets. As Athos said the stained glass panel is to big, we get another king and the jousting mechanism is just weird.

hmm... why would one storm fast with his lance against a shield, only to get a halberd in his side at the same speed? I never got it...

This set is a bit too empty for my meanings...

Now that i have time for a more extensive review...
This set is from my personal favorite of all the castle lines. The KK1 series was what I think declared just what LEGO is. Each set had a humorous comic while tying in alternate models. the sillyness of this set and others of its time declared LEGO's aversion to boring "realistic" and did away with "historical", part of why I love KK1. Why waste time being detailed and historically accurate, just to have less fun? I'm sure ninjas didnt get into battles raiding Forestman villages in history, but my ninjas do. I bet that in th historical middle ages, a knight that was an enemy to the kingdom would be slain right on the spot, but in my universe of LEGO, they are allowed to joust and be humiliated. I give this set an 8/10, definitely.

This set was enough to keep me away from Lego Castle. Uh, how horrid (though the pic makes it seem more so). None of the colors really go together.

I love this set, it has a good supply of pieces. I got this set for my birthday and then my family got the set again. i especially like the stained glass window.

It came with enough people to be playable even though it was rather expensive for a set that small.

I liked the set when I saw it then when i bought (T_T)
