Maybe the glue's not all bad - with the KK2 Chess Set, I had trouble moving the Queens because the 'skirts' always snapped off - now, I can move the minifig without it breaking as it's in one piece.

But the shields are glued? No... :evil:

That's my biggest problem with the set.
I don't care about the other 2 chess pieces that are glued.
But I want those shields dagnammit!

This is cruddy. Why, LEGO, why. At least the shields aren't glued onto the rooks.

Yup having read further into the Eurobricks post I was very realieved to find that the shields are not glued to the stands, and that is was only the queens torso and skirt which are glued together! It begs the question why did LEGO glue certain parts, but since most of the parts I want are non-glued I will definately be purchasing at least one of these!

I would imagine because LEGO is viewing this not as a set, or as something to part out, but as a game to be carried around and played with. I played with the original KK chess set, and I will admit brick-built chess pieces (or pieces without strong connections like the queen and her dress) dont' always come off the board in one piece, slowing the game down as you repair your pieces.

So from a gameplay and portability standpoint, gluing makes perfect sense.

It does makes sense, if you want to play chess. For the people who want it for the minifigs, it is still annoying. Maybe, though, the glue will disolve in vinegar or something.

They shouldn't be glued 'cause everyone who is able to play chess should be able to glue some parts himself and so everybody will be fine.

Maybe Lego should place a simple glue-instructions in the box with hints about which parts should be glued to play chess.

has anyone tried this? i have a keychain s omeone bought me as a present that i would get much more use out of if i could use him as a real minifig.

(thoughtful present and all, but i would never use it as a keychain so it ends up hanging on my wall)

Glues used by LEGO bond the plastic together. Any solvents used to loosen the glue likely would remove the torso printing and damage the bricks. The dark bley and red half slopes and queen torsos should be available on bricklink. We could buy these and add the heads, capes, and hair from the Chess set.

Recently I got a copy of the set and it is very nice. The soldiers are generic and have excellent weapons. It is an improvement over the Knights Kingdom Chess Set.
