arrow slits question
So I've been looking around for a bit in the older topics and I've seen some really great arrow slits, but very few guides on how to make them (just great pictures of the finished product). I'm not referring to regular slits either, I'm referring to the cross shaped ones. And as I seem to be inept at making my own, I was wondering if anyone could explain a simple method of making these.
Thanks for the help.

Thats really for you to figure out. We've all done it. You feel better if you do it yourself without help; like you've accomplished something.

I just got back into Lego, so I am not up on these techniques, either. Here are some images I found by browsing the "how to" section on the CC main page:

Good advice, I've just been really frustrated trying to figure it out. Hopefully I'll eventually find something that works, although I'll probably just give up.Prince Imdol wrote:Thats really for you to figure out. We've all done it. That's an interesting idea, albeit a little part intensive. However, I think it's a little bigger than what I'm trying to do.Odysseus wrote:I just got back into Lego, so I am not up on these techniques, either. Here are some images I found by browsing the "how to" section on the CC main page:

The advantage of this is you may find your own way to make a good arrowslit design, and you get a cookie for that.Aragornn45 wrote:Good advice, I've just been really frustrated trying to figure it out. Look closely at the one's in Ulmaris and figure it out that way. I managed to do it that way myself, plus I figured out how to do those towers, too.
Oh, and here's the link to that: CLICK RIGHT HERE!

Yeah, those ones are good. My suggestion is a brickshelf search. Odysseus: that one is good, but if you want a longbow/shrotbow, a slimer slit is nessecary.Lord Felix wrote:Look closely at the one's in Ulmaris and figure it out that way. I just use the arches that are three wide and then leave 3-4 spaces under it open. If you want a cruciform one then add arms by not placing the pieces there and then use the flat one by one stud to make it somewhat smaller. There are some very detailed loops on here that look great but most are fairly part intensive.
Remember this as well, historic loops for crossbows and bows were intended to be used from several feet behind. Many loops were made for both xbows and bows to use as you never knew who would be guarding it. This changes with hand gun loops somewhat. There is only one good article on historic loops I know of by Derek Renn done by testing at White Castle in Wales but it is very good.

These pics might help give an idea on how they're put together:

Hey,
About four years ago there was a ton of discussion here about arrow slits. Alan summarized the discussion here. Definitely check out his post and follow the links to many great ideas. Lots of other stuff since, like Chris' design using hinges, and many others. Here are the results of a search on the topic.
