Five foot tall fantasy style castle

Post by Gumby »

OMG it's amazing:

It's not mine. The amount of pink s/he has is unbelieveable! AND s/he put it to good use!

The detailing is just... stunning.

I think the majority of it is Lego, but that some pieces are megabloks.

At the top of the tall tower are also some Coko walls (white 1x4x4 with window and heart pattern).
Nonetheless, this is one fantastic creation.

It's mine. It took me 3 months to build and measures 5 ft tall by 4 ft long by 3 ft wide. I used about 35,000 to 50,000 bricks (mustly purchased via bulk lots on evilBay at an estimated cost of $1500). It sits on top of a wooden wheeled dolly I constructed so it could be more easily moved around (weighs 80 pounds without the dolly). The back wall was mounted on hinges and swings open to reveal the interior of the main tower (4 levels). I built it for my two little girls (ages 5 and 6) and they helped pick the colors. My plan was to build something huge and detailed that not only looked good, but also could be played with. Yes, I did use some clones. They amount to less than 10% of the total and most of those are hidden under the base for support where they cannot be seen. But there are a few clones (not many) in viewable places where Lego did not have the piece, color or affect I was looking for. It is now a family heirloom and getting frequent play from my daughters. Only problem is, being a family heirloom and having two kids, I will have to build a second castle soon. Maybe a cathedral next time. By the way, I am a HE. Thanks for your interest everyone. This is my first MOC ever and the only one I ever put on public display. I hope it gets some of your creative juices flowing.

Wow, this is a great model. Who cares if it contains clone bricks, it obviously was a lot of work, and it's very nice. After all, when it comes to simply building a MOC, what counts is the skill and creativity of the builder in using pieces, not what brand the bricks are. This castle is obviously made of real bricks and not large, single-purpose pieces.

Anyway, what a great castle. fosterbengoshi, since it's on a dolly and you indicate that it's played with by your daughters, is its construction permanent, or do your daughters take parts of it apart?

No. That is my absolute rule. No taking apart any pieces! But the round tower on top does come off fairly easily if they prefer more rooftop space to play. They can also move the minifigs around. But that's it.

I would like to see a close up of the blue guys helm seen here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=757079 Thanks for any close up pics of that fig. Very nice, but I would like it alot more if it was 100% LEGO.

The blue guys are Imperial Soldiers, complete with rifles, backpacks and hats (kepi?). There are about 20 of them. For some reason, my daughter made the governor or general a horn blower by the main gate. Sorry, no close up pictures of them. As for being all Lego, to each his own. I am perfectly satisfied buying a pair of Levi jeans and having money left over for a movie and some pizza with the family. Others are more obsessed mainly with status and appearance and prefer Armani jeans leaving nothing left for fun and food. Occasionally using clones is like (dare I say this here?) yanking your _____ - 90% will admit to doing so, while the other 10% will lie.

I believe Terrance meant the blue guy roughly in the center, in the tiled courtyard (is that the correct term?) who is one of the four on horseback with lances. Of course, correct me if I'm wrong. Or maybe after reading your responce again, I just am too tired to correctly interpret it. If that's the case, I apologize.

The tiled floor is very nice...to tell the truth I only looked at the pictures showing it all, maybe one or two of the detail ones.

Also, I think I'll turn this to a poll, but I don't mind using MB in my Lego creations. In fact, I find them especially useful if the colors don't match as support pieces that you don't really see...it saves more pieces for other spots.

 Amazing castle! Pity about the mb. Still, as a percentage, that is not bad, and that is an INCREDIBLE amount of pink!!! :o
